Makes me want to vomit & laugh at the same time. The fact that these people think wiping out the competition by throwing money at it, rather than competing and just making a better product, sums him and his ilk up.
As for his career moment, no one cares, no one’s going to remember his name even weeks after he leaves MS, his name won’t be remembered or cared about in years to come, just a footnote in a book at some point on MS’s failure to buy the gaming industry.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer said in testimony that the company may exit its gaming business if GP subscribers off consoles don't increase a lot.
Spencer has stated during the FTC confrontation that if Microsoft cannot expand Game Pass's base fast enough by 2027 then the company may begin serious discussions about exiting the gaming space altogether

Ah Reforge... the absolute gutter trash of twitter analysis... its a close run thing between him, Red Dragon and Dreamcast Guy for most anti-xbox drivel.
Lets be fair here its a cut throat industry. You take Game Pass out of the equation and studios are still being shutdown elsewhere due to the same market forces. The guys who did Immortals of Aveum (forget their name) is the most recent horror story and haven't Sony also shuttered several studios internally over the past few years.
There is always risk here regardless of whether you're first or third party but "warning about the pitfalls of big acquisitions" is basically saying when you take on multiple studios and grow rapidly you are also taking on their risk portfolio not just their skillset(s) and IP.
I think there the key isn't to force them to "prove their worth" on each title they release. More appreciate the state you inherited them in and understanding what they are good at.

You can’t have it both ways.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 20-09-2023, 10:57.

Clearly there are people that do - all these leaks aren't being done to help or big up Microsoft now are they, especially given it's snippets and likely very out of context of a bigger picture. This isn't accidental.Last edited by MartyG; 20-09-2023, 10:57.

We're at a point where if Microsoft were to exit the games industry there would be a very real risk of a collapse. To have Sony hold an effective monopoly and, for many companies, be the sole marketplace for consumers and third parties to compete on... not only would things from a consumer perspective become horrendous very quickly but we'd see closures left, right and centre. It'd be every Activision buyout concern amplified to 11. MS might constantly be straggling in the rear of the contest but at worst they've been necessary to keep Sony in check.

I should have said people here. Or the gamer in general. Everyone knows good competition is a staple for a healthy industry.
Where they really need to be throwing their money is at executive acquisitions. They need people in positions of power that have a better understanding of things. This Spencer fella seems massively clueless, and he also looks like a bit of a wally during presentations.
