Others will know better. From what I picked up on Era the hope seems to be that the AI element will try to offset the PS5 Pro being around half the upgrade over PS5 that PS4 Pro was to PS4.
In all seriousness though it sounds like they'll be leaning heavily into their own frame generation tech to push the performance so that side of things will be interesting to compare with the FSR/DLSS/XESS versions.
It's probably a smart move to release it ahead of GTA6 as well, though I think everyone saying it'll be able to run that at native 4K60 might be disappointed...
I'll also assume this is going to land at £700+

Was the PS4 Pro a success?
Everyone I know who’s into games never purchased one and I kept my PS4 till the end of life and never noticed an issue by being on the low end console.
Feels like this will be the same in my eyes, it just seems unnecessary. I would rather have some top games I can count on 2 hands first! 😅

Approx. 14m out of the 117m PS4 sold were Pro's. Enough to probably make it a worthwhile release but not in the way it hugely moved the needle on the systems overall sales otherwise. The idea of a 4K console as well was a big lynch pin. Really hard to get info on the One X but I recall the rumble being that it had tanked hard which makes sense given the PS4 Pro sales ratio and how low XBO sales in general were by that point overall, which would make the lack of a Pro from Xbox this gen make sense too. Their's no real notable hook to PS5 Pro so it'll likely sell what it does on sheer enthusiast/brand power. Really hard to imagine what it'll sell, I assume it'll be lower than PS4 Pro just because of the lack of hook, lack of software to make use of it and when it releases we'll be entering peak Switch 2 hype fever season as well.Last edited by Neon Ignition; 17-03-2024, 14:14.

I agree Neon Ignition that it will sell to those keeping up with the Joneses and that’s fair, it’ll be the best way (Theoretically) to play PS5 games. But as an enthusiast, it feels unnecessary as we haven’t really tapped into the PS5 as exclusive, exceptional games are thin on the ground.
fishbowlhead It’s correct that Sony have destroyed Microsoft sales wise this generation, but releasing a step up console feels even more misguided as the competition have nothing to offer, so why fracture your market?
It’s going to be an interesting few years in the games market. Almost all games are multi format, the biggest games don’t require grunt to run, will the Switch 2 repeat the same trick, will handheld consoles become common place, will Microsoft bow out of the hardware market and VR…
Actually looking forward to what the future holds. Just wish we have a few more tent pole releases!
