Is the Slim cheaper than the fatty? My son wants one for Xmas and I need to know when to pull the trigger... Oh then there's black Friday. Chances are it'll do another price drop like it did recently, right?

Same price as the current RRP - £479.99.

I honestly think a substantial price drop is highly unlikely. The previous one was probably to clear old stock before launching the slim.

        No harm in waiting though.

If you want to save some cash up front the digital version is £390.

Both the digital/disc versions are priced the same in the UK but in the US the digital slim got a slight price increase.

Apart from the size/design changes it looks like the slim versions get an extra USB C port up front, the onboard SSD has been increased to 1tb from 825gb which are all small benefits but the biggest negative to the slim is it doesn't come with a vertical stand anymore so if you are planning to do that you're going to need to stump up for an extra stand and the official one is an eye watering £25.

Thinking about it last night, I'm going to assume that despite how it's being pitched we'll end up with the same situation for the Slim Digitial variant as we did with the standard one - that it's rarely stocked that well. If you plan on ever owning a disc drive it's the most expensive route there's ever been so focus will likely remain on the disc version of the console. Cost cuttings the model brings along with omissions like the stand, this is really another stealth price increase by Sony. It's not like it's coming to boost stalling PS5 sales either.

With no disc drive, on reflection, the redesign of the Series X should be £349.99 at the most

Buy a PS5 Phat and be damned, folks! Probably the last console we'll ever see with a built-in drive.

I'm not sure how it'll play out now that the two SKUs are effectively the same console except one has the add-on disc drive attached.

Even if they make less digital consoles you can still basically make a digital one by buying the more expensive model and selling the disc drive... though looking at price difference it's not going to make it any cheaper.

Personally I'm tempted to buy the digital one but I'd probably buy matte black panels to change the look of it as I am not a fan of the glossy white style. If I'm going to do that anyway then any model is worth a look.

Supposedly Destiny 2 fans are cancelling their pre-orders for The Final Shape following the news reports that have been coming out of Bungie. Might not be true but we must be circling the end of the games life span now

Good analysis and I agree with all your points.

I actually think Sony are leaving a bit of an open goal on price.

This is a very good opportunity for Microsoft to offer an aggressive price reduction. £349.99 with a month or three of GP Ultimate would be substantially better value than what Sony are offering and give a good offset to Sony's more popular exclusives.

Re D2 - I guess there comes a point where even the most pathetic dress sim addicts have had enough of lacklustre reskinned recycled resold garbage tier content loaded with overpriced dresses.

                      Or not.

I'm sure Bungo will put out the usual lies, 'we're listening', 'renewed focus on x/y/z', 'trust us, the final shart will be amazeballs' etc, and the idiot dress brigade will throw more money at the screen again.

                      There's no idiot like a D2 idiot.

I had stopped playing D2 a while back, when they started sunsetting content it really bugged me as it was quite a substantial amount of content and god knows what its like for new players as the story must be so fragmented now.

Also limited time content with seasons is a real annoyance for me to

I am honestly still quite amazed that with how efficient Sony are at managing their studios and projects, that they even looked at bungie in the first place given bungles track record. Halo was always over budget and grossly over schedule (Reach was their 1 and only project that actually came together consistently and somewhat on time). Destiny was way over budget and way behind schedule with the entire game being gutted before launch into a patchwork that made zero sense.

They were then consistently propped up by Activision through D2 to a ginormous degree, and that was with a massive workforce as well. They have absolutely no idea how to budget money, time or projects as a whole, yet people keep bailing them out or buying them, they absolutely stink as an investment on any level, it absolutely baffles me.

Ah and the grovelling begins once pre orders started getting canceled.

Destiny 2 dev says it’s listening to feedback on Lightfall and Final Shape, aims to exceed expectations for new expansion

Broken record? It’s well beyond that Bungie.

It seems doubttful that Destiny 2 will recover this late into its lifespan. If Marathon doesn't succeed I wonder where that leaves Bungie as presumably Destiny 3 is very far off. This is why even companies with successful GAAS titles shouldn't be overly dependent on it. This foot off the gas mentality because of the easy profits they make is bizarre as the void in their releases that it creates leaves them exposed when their cash cow suddenly dries up.

They apparently confirmed a while ago that D3 hasn’t even begun development. Which wouldn’t surprise me at all, they probably have zero idea what to do with it.

You never ever sleep on the job, they’ve become complacent and lazy.
