"On Wednesday, employee anxiety ratcheted up a notch as a set of slides (first reported by Kotaku) revealed that Insomniac boss Ted Price was pushing back against pressure from Sony to cut 50 to 75 jobs from the studio. Rumors of layoffs had been circling among Insomniac staff for months, but this made clear that the threat was real — part of a company-wide cost-cutting initiative that is hitting many of PlayStation’s studios, despite the resounding success of their games and hardware. (The slides also noted that PlayStation plans to shut down one of its subsidiaries, although it was not clear which one.)"
What the hell is going on at Sony?! The post I stuck up last night seems to show their profit margins have dropped by a significant % year to year and there is direct evidence now the company wants to reduce even the most successful teams to cut costs...
You really have to feel for the teams here. It's stressful enough having personal data leak but I find the possibility of a first party studio as good as these guys even be slightly at risk of layoffs anyway is telling.
They simply can't afford a swing and a miss on this triple A stuff and yet equally it appears Sony overall can't afford the ballooning costs either.
Crazy stuff really.

I lost my mind and purchased a Dualsense Edge for £210.
My thinking was, being a Street Fighter 6 player, I wreck dpads. I'm currently on my 3rd standard Dualsense controller. I thought, maybe the Edge is more premium and all that. Well turns out it's pretty buff. From a fighting game playing perspective, the adjustable triggers are excellent. I can decrease the travel so it has same travel as the L1/R1 buttons. This is great. Why stick with the Dualsense you might ask? Simply, that I am so used to using it. I enjoy using it for fighting games.
The dpad, looks the same from the imagery I was scoping whilst mulling over whether to get one or not. However, in my hands, I can tell that even though it is technically the same dpad, Sony have decreased the cut out space around the dpad. Such a little change has provided great benefits. Ultimately making the dpad less prone to any accidental diagonals. Something that can be demo'd on the existing Dualsense if you push the very top corner of the left directional button you can get a up/back input. So that's also great!
Outside of those features, of course if has the optional extra back buttons which have been great for FPS and action games. There's 2 types of back buttons too. A smaller trigger type or paddles. There's also extra stick heads you can swap out. PS1 style dome analog sticks in regular height or a taller option.
There's like a 10ft braided cord and an optional cable lock for unwanted cable disconnects. This is actually great for going to offline events.
Build quality is really good. Feels heavier than the DS. Has some rubber at the bottom of the handles which I'm currently unsure about.
Lastly there's the case which is just mad strong. I actually think it could take a bullet and survive. Oh it has replaceable analog sticks which is pretty cool. They pop out with ease when you unclip them for removal using steel pinflap things.
Was it worth £210, hmm no. Did I feel bad spending that much money which was xmas money? No sir. Very happy with it!Last edited by hudson; 08-01-2024, 13:47.
