    2024 market caps

    Sony $120.56 B
    Meta $939.38 B
    Microsoft $2.885 T
    Apple $2.809 T

Just at least try and be positive once in a while, I don't listen to anything you say in here as I know it's always going to come from a place of overwhelming negativity and bias.

I don't understand why posting Microsofts market cap makes for a fair comparison when Xbox as a brand operates as a P&L within that entity. Sure they have a war chest they can delve into but they still have to show they are viable otherwise MS would shut them down.

Anyway... apologies if you think I am not being positive enough towards Sony but in my post I did mention that Ragnarok received some stellar DLC content for free and even the £10 upgrade fee for this new version of TLoU2 is still worth it if you want the new modes... making it the best way to play.

I just wanted to point out how weird it is that in a matter of months Santa Monica puts out a free DLC which arguably has more replay value than this "remaster" from Naughty Dog, which attracts a fee and has the most minimal of graphical touch ups.

That's why I think it personally should have been DLC and not called a remaster. That was it, that's my observation... I don't think that's being overly negative?

My morning upbeat note is that I am actually hopeful that 2024 to early 2025 will be a year that see's some good stuff announced and released. I did some checking on the thread on era that tracks PS Studios and it's almost a complete radio silence wipeout and for many has been for several years now.

With the PS4 ever further into the rear view window, a need to release major titles in release slots that avoid getting hammered by GTA6 landing onto the market next year and so many studios being 3-5 years deep into development we should surely be seeing the fruit of their work this year. Between PS5 and PSVR2 we should see things emerge that are pretty ready for release rather than being showcased and being 3 years out so whilst things are deathly quiet at the moment I would expect the next State of Play onwards to start the train rolling on their software pipeline.

Disclaimer - Remember that this is now. I take no responsibility for my actions if Sony's year is:

Yeah there's a weird negative view on Sony current gen performance over on era. To me it is very odd.

Since picking my PS5 up I've played

        Nier Automata - PS5
        Astro's Playroom - PS5
        Elden Ring - PS5
        God of War - PS5
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - PS5
The Last of Us Part 2 - PS5
        Yakuza 2 Kiwami - PS5
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (Reboot) - PS5
        Fallout 4 - PS5
        Resident Evil 2 - PS5
        Demon's Souls - PS5
        Ghost Recon: Breakpoint - PS5
        Ghost of Tsushima - PS5
        Salt and Sanctuary - PS5
        Watchdogs 2 - PS5
        Tales of Iron - PS5
        Battlefield 2042 - PS5
        Nioh 2 - PS5
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade - PS5
Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition - PS5

        Yakuza 3 - PS5
        Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - PS5
Death Stranding: Directors Cut - PS5
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War - PS5
Sekiro Shadows Die Twice - PS5
Wo Long Fallen Dynasty - PS5

Titles either made for or have upgraded PS5 versions underlined

Not to mention some of my other older PS4 library titles such as DS1 DS2 DS3 Bloodborne

Absolutely no lack of games for me there. As for the future I have on my to play list

Rebirth, Spidey 2, God of War 2, TLOU2 remaster, Horizon Forbidden West, Re4, Cyberpunk 2077, Crisis Core

And upcoming Ronin game, whatever Naughty Dog, Santa Monica etc are developing plus the bucket load of quality 3rd party titles.

Plus I have 1000s of PS4 games I could buy and play if I wanted to AND there is a VR kit I can buy should I want to dip my toes in.

So far so good for me. My only complaint is I'm on my 3rd dualshock dualsense in 2 and half years because of stick drift.

I think this is the crux of where much of the split in their community and where the differing thoughts on here come from now that we're so far into this gen. If you're a gamer who primarily plays games via your PlayStation it's incredibly easy to be getting along just fine with the system, served well be a steady stream of quality games. The more that other systems enter the fray though...

          Astro's Playroom - PS5
          Demon's Souls - PS5

This is the same list with multi-formats and performance patches removed, two launch games and one of them is a remake. I got the sense some tune on Era was changing last year in the build up to Spider-Man 2, I think the question started to come up more of what would Sony's line up have been like if they didn't have Insomniac batting games out like a trooper?

There's such a disparity in fortunes between the PS5 and XSX but tangibly it's hard to work out what the PS5 offers that the latter doesn't. I do think that Sony has reached a very fortunate point where the PlayStation brand has become much bigger than the console itself and that is what's doing a lot of the heavy lifting, likely why they were so worried about Call of Duty being lost because without its momentum the focus would be much tighter on content and their pipeline is crawling at the moment. It feels like PSVR2 exposes that somewhat, it doesn't share the same popularity and needs USP to galvanise interest. They've already released more exclusives on it than they did for PS5 in the last 12 months and yet it faces a similar void in front of it because the almost automated ability to sell isn't there.

It feels almost inevitable we'll get a State of Play within the next 6 or so weeks now, fingers crossed for it.

Insomniac are probably be the best development studio in the world at present, if not just for overall quality of output (which is very high, though Spiderman 2 did have some issues at launch) but almost certainly for their cadence of output.

I think it would be a very different landscape in terms of 1st party output without them because they've literally been on fire the past few years. In comparison Santa Monica got GOW out and an excellent DLC addition, but I would assume they are back into deep silence and Naughty Dog have canned Factions and released only remasters since the PS5 launched.

So certainly Sony are very lucky to have them and I hope they are treating them well.

Unfortunately by no fault of the studio they might have their rockiest years ahead following that huge leak. Everyone now knows precisely what they're working on so I doubt there will be any surprises which is a huge shame.

A-If you're going to do it it's better to do it around the time of the movie and B-This has to be one of the least needed remakes/remasters, I like the games but they are not replayable and UD has done the rounds plenty already

                  Comment

Agreed that they're not replayable. I tried to replay UD to see other paths but all that happened was that I 'saw the strings', as it were, and realised how unfun making the decisions is when you are simply making them on the basis of 'I picked A last time, so this time I'll choose B'.

Until Dawn is a brilliant game for those who haven't played it though. I had such a blast playing through that when it came out. The follow up games have never come close for me, sadly.

The PS5 version is probably just a side thing because they're doing a PC one anyway. If it wasn't for the PC release I doubt they would have bothered to remaster it. Probably the same thing with LoU 2 now that I think about it.

Been hearing Rumours that the new Metro game is a PSVR2 game. Not sure if this means its a side project or a Resident Evil 4 type scenario where the game is playable in flat and vr modes.

That would be nice to see, especially given the titles speculated about otherwise suggest a VR absence otherwise

One new VR game is not enough though when you consider the last first party release was over a year ago. Here's hoping they announce a forthcoming VR special, or they have some surprises for us regarding other new VR releases.
