You sir, are the man. I was beginning to think I was the only person who appreciated this stage for its true glory. All my mates are like 'meh' when they see it.
    Heh, I know that feeling.
The first time I saw that level I instantly pressed paused and just stared?. Now it is the level I almost always use when I am in practice mode

Another I feel I should mention, but It is not a level as such, is the Savage Labyrinth in Wind Waker. It is pretty much 51 floors of just fighting wave of enemy after foe. It is amazingly addictive and so so much fun. The true place to test ur skills

You know when your hungry and you read a menu full of nice food, and just want to eat it all right then and there. Well that's what this thread is like. I want to go and play all the top games everyone has just mentioned NOW but I’m stuck at work

Anyways here's mine, mostly repeats of what’s been said:-

      Mario 64

The game was revolution to me. Mario gone all 3d on us my fave level was either the first one where you could knock a koopa out of his shell and then skate/surf around the whole level or the one in the sky with the magic carpet…

      StreetFighter 2 Turbo

Ryu Stage with me been Ken and kicking his arse ^ ^

      Halo

      Silent Cartographer

      Nuff said

Halo?s level Silent Cartographer is a master piece and amazing played on legendry and co-op

QIII ? the longest yard is a classic, possibly because it was played to death on the trial version of QII, but it is an excellent level.

        Any level on half-life

        The entire of OOT

I'm having the exact problem. Except with me it's not that I'm at work, but that I'm a tight git and have hardly any of the games mentioned.

Womblingfree - Space invaders? Err, why?
            It is design perfection.

Personally I find it dull and repetitive.

I really, really liked the last few levels of Ape Escape. They were true platforming bliss; the three-dimensional version of 2D platformers. Great, great, addictive, hard as nails things.

Also... Interstate something-or-other on Burnout 2. I've managed to get so many chain-boosts, I can just play that level for hours. It's really good.

                  Silent Cartographer - Halo.
There are simply no redundant parts to this level anywhere. One minute you're guns blazing outside in wide open spaces, the next, creeping around holed up deep underground, then fighting your way back out. The sense of accomplishment is brilliant, and the atmosphere is amazing.

                  Forest Temple - OoT
I just sat there shaking my head the first time I played this. Fantastic sound and music, wonderful atmopshere, and brilliant level design. That twisting corridor puzzle just blew me away. In fact it still does.

                  Bunker - Goldeneye
I played this one level for about a week, perfecting an optimal route through it, (since there were so many ways to tackle it), until I knew the layout like the back of my hand. Facility and Silo were also brilliant, I found it difficult to choose from these three. Silo was very linear but so tense with the time limit.

                  Wet-Dry World - Mario 64
I only managed to get into this game (at long last) recently, and this level really stood out.

Return to the Haunted Cathedral - Thief
The scariest level of any game, ever. I really hope to see a return of the Undead in Thief 3.

I totally agree with you on this one... but would you believe that the entire level was originally a playpen built to test out various features of the Halo graphics and physics engines? I think it turned out so cool that they left it in.

I'd love to have a go of the original OOT or Mario 64 playpen levels.

                      Mine:

                      Rez - level 5

Radiant Silvergun - last level - 3 rock bosses and then Giga. Truly awe inspiring.

Panzer Dragoon Saga - it's been a while but - the level where you loose your dragon after the fight with Azel, drop into and are forced to reach the surface with some hover bike thingy. The feeling of helplessness was soon apparent.

PDS - again- last level - racing to the top floor of the weapon, whilst the army was hunting you down. Quality.

Zelda OoT - Desert Dungeon -mirror shield, Twinrova doesn't get any better.

Zelda WW - B&W suprise, dripping with orginality.

Sonic Jam - 3D hub level - so much to do in such a small space!

I didn't know that no, and now thinking about it, it seems like a bloody excellent way to go about designing good levels. I do vaguely remember reading that Miyamoto approached Mario 64 this way, working out what was fun to do, then designing the level around it. Interesting.

here my faves(in no real order apart from zelda which is my all time fave level)!

1,zelda oot: hyrule field(if you've played it you know what i mean)

2,silent hillchool(scary game one of the best ever)

3,crazy taxi:the whole city was awsome (with the real life locales)

                          4,metroid primehazon mines(techno)

5,radiant silvergun:level 3(the one with the neon city in the background, this blew me away and continues to do so everytime i see it)

6,panzer dragoon orta:level 2 (this level is the most GRAPHICALLY stunning i've seen)

7,super mario world: the ghost houses were so cool

8,super metroid: lava stage(with the cool heat haze in the back ground, the music in this game added some real atmosphere to the whole game)

9,super mario kart: mario raceway(ahh the memories!)

10,contra 3:the whole game is just pure adrenaline!

11,mario 64:every level is bliss(cant believe i nearly forgot this beauty)

i'm playing rez at the minute and thats really impressing me too, it must have been really hard to create such imaginative levels(and i've only seen 2 of them).

there are so many more but those are the ones which come to my mind!

Every level on Super Mario 64 - The first level, purely because its the first level and the testing ground. The 3rd level (Jolly Roger Bay???) for its amazing sense of depth and mystery - it really is a lost cove. Tick Tock Clock and Magic Carpet Ride for the tension they create - one fall and thats it baby! The snow levels - So magical. This game is amazing.

Halo (level 2) on Halo - played this from start to finish at the Xbox Xpierence before it was released and it single handedly convinced me to buy Halo. The way you have to protect the structure from invasion, the place you first get the Warthog, the sniping of guards in the towers... Awesome.

Goldeneye. Ground breaking stuff. You ARE James Bond.

One level in the entire game and we still discuss it nearly 30 years later.

The single minded plod of the Invaders still sends shivers up my spine.

I guess you had to be there at the time. As a gamer of the 80s, rather than the 70s, i've always looked on it as being just... boring, and not this timeless classic people make it out to be. But that's just me.
