Official DOOM 3 discussion thread

I'm quite enjoying it so far. I think they've done a good job of making it look and feel like Doom even though it is quite different to play: particularly with the lights going off, that kinda thing really brings back memories of the originals.

One thing I'm not keen on though is the cut scenes. The cut scenes themselves are ok but I don't like the way they generally leave you eyeball to eyeball with a beasty.

Rubiq: Are you using an ATI card? I was getting crashes every couple of minutes (but no problems with any other games) until I upgraded to the 4.7 drivers.

Anyone know whether it is possible to play Doom 3 at 1280x720 (widescreen)?

At the moment I only have my TV to use as a monitor and it either does 800x600 (max normal) or 1280x720 (max widescreen).

got a dl version atm to tame my hunger but it crashes every 2 mins, i cant wait till friday

Are you using Quick save.. i was having the same problem last night, but it seems to be fine if you use the proper save when you press escape.

If it crashes you need to upgrade your catalysts

Well i used 4.7, 4.8, the hacked 4.8's and 4.9 beta's..

4.9's caused a few crashes..im currently using the H4.8's, and it still crashed when using QS. with the same game46.dll error or somethign like that.. seems that QS ****'s it up a bit

Just got Doom 3 and it runs really smoothly at 640 x 480 on medium settings on my getup: 2.4ghz, 512mb ram, 128mb Geforce FX5700.

Only played it for about 15minutes so far though. I'm going to experiment a little with different settings before I get very far.

Came back from Japan yesterday, picked up D3 in Akihabara on Friday, and then a 12 hour flight home, doh! Just out of interest, the one I have is in a box on 3 CDs, why didnt they release it on DVD? Is the UK release going to be in a standard 3 disc DVD case?

(oh and it was in english so they must of got the US version in japan)

the uk version is in special packaging if gameplay is anything to go by. so i dont know if its a standard dvd case or not.

The intro to the game is so Half Life its not even funny. Its almost a direct rip off. Even down to the health terminals. I'm a bit bored of 'science experiment gone wrong' storyline. Ah well even if it feels very familiar its still really atmospheric and gorgeous and its great once it all kicks off. The Cyber Demons are a pain in the arse at the mo'

I dont know what it is, but i just cant take the spiders. I do hate them in real life anyway, but those kids as well, the flying babies, really get to me

I've been giving this a fair whack and in the words of Simon Cowell, it's average, distinctly average.

Storyline is weak.
Event scripting is weaker.
Enemy AI is non existant.

Ok, so it's Doom, but Doom for graphics whores (no offence intended guys :-)).

I'm playing Hidden & Dangerous 2 at the moment, totally different games I know, but I can see Doom being put at the back of the cupboard and staying there.
