I've played this so much lately and its brilliant. I pretty much had my mind made up that id where making a huge mistake going down the survival horror route when all I wanted was to just run around like a maniac with a shotgun killing zombies and cyberdemons. But I have to say they've really oversold the whole Horror-Cinematic part of the game. Its still just basic Doom...which is great! Its amazing how they've made it feel like doom from the way the elevators look the same to the way certain guns handle (especially the plasma rifle which is almost identical).
I haven't been scared witless yet, mainly because of my doom attitude (if anything jumps out at me then its gonna be sorry...) but the sound is great especially that creepy laugh thats following me around. The music is really good as well, nice and understated, the way it gently builds up as your getting nearer a big boss or something.

Just completed Doom 3 in normal. Excellent experience... Spolier: Although I felt the game peaked a little early when you went to hell... I was expecting the game to finish after fighting off the end-of-level boss there, but it seemed to drag its heals towards the end in the caverns.
Right guys... I need your opinions. I'm near breaking point after reading over at Team Radeon that the x800XT has suffered yet another delay. I've got my finger hovering over the 'buy' button at overclockers at the moment, for an Asus x800Pro...
I know if I want to run Doom III to the best of its ability I should be buying a GT or Ultra, but Half-Life 2 is major factor for me, especially after Gabe Newell basically said the x800 would have an edge over all other cards with the game. So... What do you think? Should I bide my time or just get it over with and purchase a card that'll run the latest games fairly decently? I know if I wait and the XT isn't out come Half-Life 2's launch... Then there'll likely be a stampede for either the GT/Ultra or Pro, so I'm inclined to get my order in early, especially considering those cards are generally available now.
My TFT can't display 1600x1200 anyway (the monitor's limit is 1280x1040), so running games all out with maximum resolution and AF/AA isn't applicable to me. Hence the reason why an XT or Ultra may not be criminally important as of this moment.Last edited by Concept; 12-08-2004, 11:49.

I'm biding my time - mainly because I can't afford a graphics card this month. Plus, what's the point in buying a ?400 card when it's going to be seriously outdated in 6 months when the new wave will come in? I know you can say this forever, but there's a new batch of engines out at the moment, and i'm not sure they current new cards can support these engines fully yet. Rather wait for either the price to come down, or for newer cards.
