Only had mine for about a month.....haven't had it on my for long periodsso I'm only now getting fully friendly with it.
Just wondering what peoples views on the battery life is ; mine to begin with was only giving my around a hour or two before it needed charging again, now it's a bit better - 3 ish. I'm thinking that the battery life get longer as you use it more ?? Any views ?

You should be getting about 8 hours from a charge. If you're charging via Firewire don't let your computer go to sleep as this'll drain your iPod. Even if it says it's charging, it won't be.
Certain iPods also give inaccurate battery readings, you could charge it via mains, and an hour later it'll give an empty battery reading. Ignore it, it'll still last for 8 hours.
      Hope this helps

8 hours if you charge it fully and set it playing for 8 hours non stop and don't touch it at all...

between 5.5 and 7 hours is more realistic.

Anything under 4 is worthy of replacement by apple apparently...

Like Valken, I get around 6-7 hours off normal usage.

However, the battery meter on ipods is totally useless though. After a full charge it will often show the battery life that it had before the charge, and then slowly creep up to maximum. Then after about 1 hour it may be at just under 75%, and it may go to what looks like empty at around 5 hours. Basically, just ignore the power meter, as I've got well over an hours worth of playtime off my ipod with it saying 0%.

I use my ipod for about 1.5 hours a day and end up charging every third night or so.

I get about 2.5 hours a day on mine and charge it every second night...

According to ipod dorks it's better to charge is when it's at about 30 - 40% capacity due to the LiIon technology the battery uses.

I get about 7 hours on mine, by default I have the backlight turned off.... you can just hold the menu button to turn it on and off when you need it, I find that helps

What are your thoughts on the iPod Mini? I was thinking of getting one from the US Apple website, because they're only $250 (?133, conversion fans), then getting it sent to a courier in the US. What do you reckon? Btw, I REALLY don't require more than 4GB.

Yeah, I have my backlight off and it's set to sleep after 15 mins in case I forget to manually put it into sleep.

I've listened to it for 1.5 hours this morning and it's at about 75%...

Despite using the awful firmware my battery meter seems pretty accurate once it fills up fuel guage style.

                  Pacman555,

They look pretty nice and are less scratch prone than the larger iPod but for an extra few quid you can get a 15GB model...

pacman i am glad i got a 20gb over the iPid mini, 4gb will probably get filled up quickly, you will get less than 4gb also, a 20gb ipod really is 18.5gb!

                    its your call thou!

I'm quite intrigued by the iPod Mini. Is their battery life really only 8 hours still.

The Creative MuVo 4GB seems pretty good. 14 hour battery life, 4GB and very small I'm not sure on the RRP though... I think I may be tempted to choose that over the mini (were I in the same situation)!

Don't get one of the Creative MuVos, nips, they come in at ?279.99 to iPod mini's (albeit imported) ?133.
Mmm, yeah, deliberating over iPod mini. Can anyone estimate the cost of the courier shipping for me please?

I thought that they were expensive at RRP. Fortunately I'm able to get them much cheaper than ?280, which is why I'm interested in one...

... I don't think that I can really afford one, and as I already have an iPod, it's probably not a worthwhile investment!

Cheers Ginza, that's what I reckoned. Nips, how are you getting a MuVo cheap, you monkey. Is it off the back of a lorry?

Sorry for gatecrashing here but I wanted to ask a few questions before I buy an iPod...

Is it true that you can treat the iPod as an external hard drive and also partition it to how ever many partitions you want?

It'd be great to visit my mates house and say for example nick his MP3's on one partition and nick his pron of the other partition...
