The easiest way round this is, via iTunes select all your songs go to info (cmd 'i') and set volume to '+100%'. This'll make all your songs twice as loud.

There did used to be ways around it. Probably some info on iLounge.com.

          What's the next step here:

Problem - the wife's ipod nano (2nd Gen I think, software 1.1.3 I think) has this message on the screen when the ipod is switched on: "connect to itunes to restore" (this appears in several different languages)
          1. So I connected it up to itunes, it said it needed to be restored, so I did that and no difference.
          2. Connected it again, and this time it said the nano was corrupted, and needed to be restored, which I did and again, no different - just the same ol' "connect to itunes to restore".
          3. After a bit of internet investigating, I found that changing the nano's drive letter when connected to the computer sometimes helps. I did this and still no change.

What I want to know is what should I do next? The ipod is less than a year old (I bought it for her for last Christmas) so should I contact Apple? Or is there anything else I can try?

          Thanks in advance

          Dan

You could try reformatting it via iTunes. Obviously you'll lose all your songs, but if they're backed up it shouldn't be too much hassle.

Oh, are reformat and restore not the same? It only gave me the option to restore the ipod, not reformat it. How do I reformat it? Although it sounds the same as restoring it, as a restore would also make it lose all the songs too. Are we giving the same action to different names (I've probably got it wrong!) or is reformat an additional option?

              Thanks

Or failing that, take it to your nearest Apple store where they will more than likely just replace it for you there and then with a brand new one (still 2nd gen mind).

Oh ok, we're probably going to Bluewater on Wednesday so I'll take it back to the Apple Store there

                  Thanks

Yeah, sorry my mistake. It's the same thing.

You need a seperate program that converts files from avi to mp4/ipod format. Something like Videora should work fine and its free.

I am writing this on a touch leeching off of apple's network here in Ginza. Amazing for a mobile device!

I'm not sure a handheld device being able to connect to the internet and type in text is that amazing, to be honest.

D'you know, for ages I've thought "Why is this iPod so bloody quiet at full volume" and it looks like I've got my explanation, ta!
