Here's the deal - I don't care it if makes it larger. A little extra girth is fine for a colossal, epic amount more storage.

And yes I understand your position, I just don't agree with it. Now please calm down; you sound like you're about to explode.

Apple does and it has an image to protect, whether you care or not doesn't matter to them, the touch is going to sell by the bucketload. If you want epic storage get the 160GB Classic, it's really that simple. If you want wi-fi and all that, get a touch. If you want both and don't care for size, get a laptop.

Great, you don't agree, end of, yeah? I'm calm, don't play that predictable card when you can't get your own way, it makes you look silly.

No i'd be able to get a portable set-up that sounds half decent for that price, so you win!

Yes, 16gb is definitely enough space to have enough music to last you until the battery runs out but you aren't denying that its nice to have a bit more choice. 16gb would fit a fraction of my collection, and i'm not one of those people who would simply load my iPod with music for the sake of filling it up - i'll only put on what i'd listen to.

But no I agree, 16gb is ok, it'll allow some movies and a decent amount of music, but its not ideal for me, or Kotatsu obviously. You can't have everything as you've suggested though, and people have to make the choice between a Classic or a Touch - i'll definitely be going for the classic.

We should keep the iPod discussion to one thread. I respond to your posts here Cactuar, and then have to pop over to off-topic and do the same again!

I was always in two minds about the iphone - and the ipod touch with double the space is the winner. My girlfriend is picking up the classic 160gb ipod simply because she is one of those people that loves carrying her whole music collection with her, I prefer to have 4-5 gigs of music and the same in video so a good screen is important. I already have a spv m3100 so im covered in the "smart" phone area.

Either way, I think apple have made an improvement on their dwindling lineup - and their ipod wifi service I think will be great if they can A) make sure the whole itunes libary is there (inc podcasts) and B) to include a good affordable video download service. I dont understand this $1 - £2 ratio and £32 for a TV series where you get no extra features.

Hehe, I knows. Of course I'm not denying that! At the moment, this computer has 4.29GB of iTunes content on it, so I'm more than happy with the size of the iPod touch myself, I do have a lot on an external downstairs that I'll bring up in a minute (forgot about it for three months!) but I'm very much a person that'll listen to certain things for a few weeks.

Of course, it's not ideal but you may begin to like it more than you expect, but it's a different product to the iPod classic, I'm currently selling my Nanos and 80GB on eBay so may get a touch and a classic myself, it depends how much I get! 160GB is crazy and would be great if it could be used as an external hard drive hooked up to a 360, although the Mac formatting may stop that.

I'll give you credit for relentless persistence if nothing else.Got to love your solutions too. Want it all, just buy a laptop, now pocket sized! (or not)

I don't think it's too much to ask for a proper next gen iPod with large screen and a good amount of storage, and neither does much of the internet. Have a read of the tech blogs and forums, see how many people want more than 16gb.

Clearly we're done here so this is the end. Now off you go back to Apple marketing HQ, your work here is done. (or not)

It's the size of a house brick and the design isn't a patch on the iPod.

I don't like the iPod touch personally, I feel it's a lazy device. It's quite literally an iPhone with the phone part ripped out, which feels bizarre to me. I'll get an 8GB iPhone in a month or two when they're released here for daily music use, then an 80GB classic sometime next year to use when I go away on holiday and things and need my entire music collection with me.

However, I do agree with those that say the touch's capacity is far too small. The classic 80GB is about as thick as a 5G 30GB. I have one sitting next to me, and it's slim as anything. Really, an iPod touch slightly thicker than that with all that storage would not have been unfeasible, nor would it have damaged the product aesthetic in any significant way. It also would've meant that it could've been a true sixth generation iPod, and there wouldn't have been a need for the 'classic' to exist.

                  *shrug*

                  Oh well.

                  Edit:

Well, there's talking about the iPod, and there's going around in circles for page after page. The latter was happening. I was just trying to get us passed that, that's all

Oh, and btw, the iPhone is rumoured to be 16gb when it's released over here. As well as being 3G enabled.

i've been considering a new shuffle, as my current one's a bit battered (been dropped a fair few times. i attacked it with a file to sort out the nicks so it feels smoother but the poor thing still looks bad). was thinking about the new red one that's out, but i'd have to see just what shade of red it is (laptop screen's teasing my brain with different shades of red depending on the viewing angle), as it looks pretty pink in the pictures.

i love my shuffle, it's my main ipod. i have a 30gb video (my music collection is 20gb so i'm good for storage for now at least) which i take on long journeys and holidays, but otherwise it usually just sits in the drawer awaiting its next mission. i swapped the motherboard for one from a 60gb model as it has double the ram so caches more songs (usually i'll hear it cache 8 songs instead of around 4) which keeps the battery going longer, but it's a shame the 60gb battery is too thick for the 30gb case.

most of my mates think it's strange having two ipods but that thing just clips wherever and gets on with it. i was considering getting shot of the shuffle for a nano but i think i'll keep things as they are for now at least...

You're coming back the same amount of times as me, so again, don't play that card with me. It's a cop-out.

If size doesn't matter, get a laptop, get an Archos, get something else. 16GB is a good amount of storage, it's not - however - a product that is designed to fit your entire music collection on, it's a premium device. I do popping a 'proper' HD in there would make it too big, as do Apple, which is why it's flash-based.

You've said this at least five or six times, I don't understand your choice of word. Surely it would be more indicative of a premium product if there was GREATER capacity, rather than less. Premium doesn't mean 'expensive, good looking and gimped'.

edit: Just for the record since Silvergun failed to point out, I didn't actually make any childish comments. I merely quoted and commented on those made by others in an amused fashion.

No need for the childish comments. Can we cut that out please.

Because it's more expensive than all the other iPods and has a much smaller capacity with features not on any of the other range. It's a premium, 160GB for less is what most would go for, unless this device offered something worth paying out for for the extra money?

This product is not gimped, unless you're calling the Nanos and Shuffle gimped?

I just think the flagship iPod should have the highest capacity. Apple have made it overcomplicated. I think the division into classic and touch lines is highly ill advised and confusing to the average consumer.
