Making a flash-based and HDD-based version of the touch would be even more confusing I think. I agree though, there's already more than enough, perhaps this is the limit though. It's really aiming towards those that are interested in the iPhone but don't want the phone aspect, people like me I guess!
The division is fairly clear on the website though, average consumers aren't thick, the person they're buying for (if it's for someone else) will just have to give them the name of the iPod, that much should be simple. If they request a touch but feel it's too expensive they can go for a cheaper version of the iPod, now there's only one that doesn't do video, so all is well.
£129 for the 8GB Nano, add £70 for the 8GB touch, I think that's reasonable considering the extras (bigger screen, touch-screen, wi-fi, calender etc), it's more of a cut-down Mac, it looks lovely. I really hope someone hacks it or just develops a crap load of awesome apps for it!
