Well if you're using windows then PGP (pretty good privacy) is an excellent way on encrypting files...

Maybe there's a way to password protect the entire volume... I'm not too sure.

      Re: those little Sony headphones...

I think I've got the hang of them now and I'm very impressed. Claims that they block out ALL sound are exagerated but they're good enough to let me play AND hear songs clearly at a lower volume than full in the city and on ****ty public transport.

I like the definition the sound gets when using them... low end bass and high end treble all seem richer and fuller.

Honestly, If you use the largest silicone buds and jam them in your ear, you really can't hear anything. Although sitting on your own, not hearing somebody come into the room and suddenly realising they're there is scarier than a horror movie!

You're quite right about them being tricky to get used to. I kept swapping the buds to begin with, also had concerns about them getting stuck inmy ears. No probs after a short while though.

Just a small piece of advice, if you're interested.

I had problems copying one or two of my CDs to my HDD using iTunes and WMP9. They would skip or not play consistently! I found that when I put the error correction on, the problem wasn't totally sloved, but it was when I changed the bit rate to variable (VBR).

I don't know if there is a specific reason for this, but it soved my problem, so maybe give it a go if you're having troubles.

nips, I don't know if this applies to you or not but...If you're importing CD's via iTunes make sure you don't have the CD playing whilst importing as this can cause bad copies.

                bignige,

I'll try the bigger buds again now I've got the hang up putting in the medium sized buds.

I'm not sure how anything could block out low frequency noise like the low rumble of traffic though.

With the medium sized buds I can hear **** all apart from that...

                Still, worth a try eh?

Wear the right ones for your ears, using the wrong ones will result in a real loss of bass. I use the medium sized ones personally.

I thought I was... I'm getting perfect bass but I've just noticed that they don't block out ALL external noise.

I'll do a little more experimentation I reckon.

                      Just wanted you to know...
                      I've just bought a 15GB iPod, and it's all your fault(s).

Still, thanks to the exchange rate, it set me back ?165 instead of ?250

If anyone is thinking about buying a iPod case from Mann electronics

                        or on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...&category=4601

May I strongly recommend against using them. They couldn't match my postcode with my address for some unknown reason on their system so decided to say they were going to refund me and that I should reorder with a different address which I did.

The refund took 5 days to be processed, he did it without my p&p fees and also via paypal (not as a refund, but a new transaction) so I got hit by fees - basically ?6.50 out of pocket.... when I challenged him on this (on email, as he doesn't publish his phone number anymore!) he was very defensive, threatening and refused to cough up

There may be a number of people reading this who have had a good experience with this company, I guess if its straight-forward then there is no problem, but in all my years of internet shopping I have never been confronted by such an unprofessional company who treated their customers with such contempt.

                        Very dissapointing ft:

My iPod crashed yesterday. Quite distressing, really. Went to eject it from my PC and the icon wasn't there. Seems it had frozen up and refused to do anything - even when i took it off the dock. Just kept saying "do not disconnect", so all I could do was wait til the battery ran out. Lucky, I suppose, it had frozen in a state where the hard drive was spinning, so it was all tired out after 3 or so hours. Incidentally, it soon doubled up as a nice (if somewhat expensive) hand warmer but it meant I had to endure public transport without music for the first time since I got it for Christmas. Scary stuff. Don't go there, people. Really, I mean it.

The Preciouss is working fine now though, after a good night's sleep.
