    Comment

Well it says iv got about 1900 songs on it but some of them are mixes which are woven together as one track so id say around 2000 altogether.

doesn't sound as many as I thought, must be high quality/long versions, most of my Mrs's MP3 (top 40 sh*te mainly) are only 3 to 4mbs each.

I have got 2500 songs which is around 9.3Gb. You must have high bit rates. Most of mine are at 160. But I have 60Gb of space on my mp3 player so who cares

exactly what I thought, yours average 3.72mb each which I thought was "average" for a decent quality mp3.

Ginza if you turned down the quality when downloading or whatever you could probably double the amount of songs you get in 15gb.

I just set it to whatever iTunes sets it at. Whatever is on the iPod though extremely good quality. Meh. Iv won the 40GB one now David so no turning back...

I need to be able to select multiple files in the library, but not using the mouse left-click-drag method. Holding down shift and making the selection stupidly appears not to work. Any ideas?

Thats very strange, it works fine for me using either the shift or ctrl key (depending on what I am selecting)

So using the shift key, you can instantly select say a dozen MP3s? I find I have to click each one, one at a time, holding CTRL which is time consuming in the extreme..

As long as they are in a continous list, otherwise you have to use ctrl.

I've been looking into getting a hdisk mp3 player recently, and I'm swayed towards the Zen Xtra. Compared to an iPod:

                        + better sound quality
+ 60GB for the same price as 20GB
                        - uglier than an iPod
                        - slightly larger than an iPod

To me, the pros far outweigh the cons. So then iPodites - what else does an iPod offer?

You could create a seperate playlist and just drag the files to it individually.

Papercut look into the Iriver H120 (was called iHP120). I was thinking of buying one soon and Crispin just bought one. (look in the MP3 player stick for his views)

Yeah, saw those, haven't heard much about them. The lcd remote put me off a little, not sure if it is actually required. Cheers for the tip, I'll look into it.

Also saw the cool looking Archos AV380, for ?500 you get a 80GB hdisk and video playback (mp4, xvid, divx) on a nice color lcd. No way I could justify that cost though.

The Philips models have a good rep visually too, but again don't know much else about them.

The Zen is SO much larger than the iPod. I was in exactly the same position as you, but my investment was only for music, not for any files or anything.

I had a 20g Zen, changed it for an iPod after about 4 months and I'd never go back. The iPod is so much smaller. It's much easier to use and it's better all-round. The screen is too small and ugly on the Zen... iPod ALL THE WAY.

And it is SOOO BIG. In specs it seems only a little bigger, but because the size increase is in volume the smallest difference in size on paper feels 10x bigger in your pocket.

This is just for me mind, you may use it and decide that the extra space is more important or something, but there is no way I'd ever go back to Zens.
