Cheers! So 25fps is not an option on the PSP? I'll try encoding a 25fps source at 30fps and see what happens

when you open a vob in VirtualDubMod, does the audio stream appear ?
If so, i think your double clicking, on the audio stream in the streams list.
Your ment to right-click and do the select full-processing form the list.
      Conversion, compression etc...
Don't worry about asking questions, fire away...

I think the difference between 29.97 and 30 would be marginal. Think
about a long film though. Come 45mins in that .03 would cause a bit of
de-sync. It's good to experiment though..

Basically, I do everything that is shown in your instructions for VDM to the letter and it appears to all work fine - all the settings are as you state and when I choose the Streams List, I get an audio channel shown that I right-click on to get the settings (as per your instruction... the left-clicking was just me experimenting and discovering I can enable/disable the stream). But it only seems to work when I disable the audio - if it's enabled, VDM says there's still no audio decompressor present (even though I've now got AC3) and it won't do anything. I've taken screens of the process... but they're too big at the moment, so I'll upload them tomorrow when I have access to my Photoshop at work.

Of course, suggestions on what's wrong before then would be great...

Hey martTM. Just hit me gave you the like to AC3 filter not the ACM.
Here try this, did you get the latest version of VDM_all inclusive ? I had
an older one. Should work now, i'd even try FlaskMpeg again...

              Dude!

VDM works a treat now - left it running at home while I'm here (reckoned it'll take about 4 hours to convert a 4.5GB VOB file into a 1.6GB AVI) so hopefully by the time I finish work, I should arrive back to find a nice fat AVI waiting for me to compress even further and have subtitles added to it.

              Cheers matey!

Weird, watched consolevania on my PSP last night and it looked pretty good. Alias however had running blacks everywhere. I converted them to the same settings so why the big difference??

Hey martTM. Glad you up and running....
Tell me how you get on. Need any more help just ask.

                    Hi GoblinUK.

The blacks, did it look like response time ? If not, it could be
source clip ? The 3GP may need a bit of a boost in bit-rate etc.. ?
Was the video overly dark/blackish. May need to be brightened
slightly. You really want to test a couple of similiar type small videos.
A minute or two long, to see if you get the same result...

I encoded FF_Advent Children trailer just a bit ago. I thought that.
With all the movement and light dark, would give the PSP a bit of a test.
Plus, give me an idea what the file would look like on it. Looked great..
I did give the bit-rate a boost to 630kbs/sec, what with all the rapid
                    movement....

How can i increase the brightness wonderboy?

                      Comment

Just run the avi through virtualDub, goto Video->filters brightness/contrast.
You can't do it in 3GP, as such. I think you could use aviSynth, but means
working out a avs script file. Then finding the filters....

Has anyone here bought this Sony card? MSXM512S (512mb Duo Pro)

I am starting to get a bit frustrated with this. Ebuyer says it comes with an adapter, yet one review on its site, mentions that it doesnt. If you look on Google, some state it comes with an adapter, some state it doesn't, and some don't say anything. The code isn't even recognised on Sonys website. So anyone, anyone Bueller anyone got this card?

                          Thanks.

Got my Sony card (512mb) from an actual Sony shop - cost a bit more, but then I'm an impatient sort of guy.

Wonderboy - I'm now in possession of a totally spot-on subbed version of Hero! Yay! It took longer than I expected, but that's just because I'm a perfectionist... I went through all the subs in Subtitle Workshop and made a whole bundle of corrections (lower case Ls being replaced with i, punctuation and whatnot), so now it's perfect. The only problem I have now is that the final file is 4.6GB... and I'm guessing that even when I run it through iPSP or 3GP at two passes, it's not going to get below 512mb. And that's the only card I have. So, doesn't look like I'll be getting it on my PSP after all. Bugger.

Still, as long as the codecs are fine then I'll whack it on my iBook instead and watch it when I go up to London on Thursday to interview Kojima.

MarTM, did it come with an adapter? I have just ordered a seperate adapter, which was only a fiver. I'll sell it if the Dup Pro comes with one. Will be handy if I upgrade to a camera which uses Memory Stick anyway..

EDIT: Oh, and are you using your iBook to encode the vids?

No - I'm using my PC to encode the vids through a variety of programs (specifically VDM and iPSP) and then transfering them over using a portable 20GB hard drive I've got handy.

And my Duo didn't come with an adapter - it's the card that the PSP uses, so I've got no need for one.
