Something you'd like to keep an eye on when buying an LCD screen: the delay. I just bought a samsung LE26R51B myself, and while it is a great system, even its 12 millisecond delay is visible while gaming, bluring the background when it moves. This isn't noticable in all games, mostly those with detailed backgrounds that don't move all the time (action adventurers and the likes).

If you've got space for a regular CRT television I advise you to check out some of the HDTV CRT sets. They've got none of this delay, and because the technology is much older and thus evolved they're overall cheaper then LCDs.

As for a small question of my own: is the LCD tv I bought progressive scan enabled? Just curious...

I believe LCD's are Progressive Scan by their very nature.

Thanks. After reading through the replies in this thread some more I've come up with another question: what's this tearing everyone's talking about?

Well here's a pic by televisionuser at AVForums showing an example -

It's a problem many people have had on the Samsung sets when using 60Hz.

And on the subject of tearing, I emailed Samsung the other day about it and if it could be fixed (I really want the set but the whole tearing issue has been putting me off thus far).

Got a response today which simply said
With reference to your email regarding the LE32R41B, the fault you are describing is repairable.
Make of that what you will as some people on the AVforum are getting Samsung bods coming around to update their firmware to see if it fixes it.

Isn't the tearing due to the delay of the crystals? Because the LExxR41 series have a delay of 16 milliseconds, thus slower then one frame at 60Hz. the R51 series however has a delay of only 12 milliseconds, thus getting rid of this inconvinience?

So is there a possible link between the tearing problems and the model number? (the 41 vs the 51 sets?)

I think it is a software problem, I had a Plus UP-880 dlp projector a few years ago and this did exactly the same thing when fed with a 50Hz signal, Plus eventualy released a new firmware which totally got rid of the problem.

I could be totally wrong though. I'm not quite sure what tearing is. I always thought that you can experience 'ghosting' on LCD screens when your crystals can't keep up with the amount of frames you are throwing at them per second. Some math will then tell you that 16 milliseconds (41 series) is ok for 50 Hz, but really on the edge for 60Hz. The newer 51 series has a delay of only 12, which is easily fast enough for both.

That's just me and my logic though.

I didn't think there was any difference between the 41 and 51 except a slight colour and design change.

Ack, my bad :/ I was comparing the LExxA series to the R series. I mess them up quite often as the only models you see here are LExxA41 and LExxR51.

No probs mate. I have the 41 so you had me a little worried there. So far I love this TV and have seen no tearing although I havn't tested it with any High Def material. Aparently tearing doesn't happen over VGA either which is what I will use for the Xbox 360 so Im not too concerned.

                            Dell 2405fp

I got one of these a few months ago for under ?700 (You have to haggle with Dell).

Its a 24" widescreen lcd with DVI, VGA, Component, S-Video & Composite inputs (along with a USB hub) does picture in picture and has a resolution of 1920x1200 which is enough for 1080p!

Fantastic monitor which I also do most of my gaming on.

Wow, nice monitor, but i'm not one to haggle through email to some faceless corporation to lower the price, or was it at a shop?
