other than your problem, how is the sharp?

i've been looking at getting the gd7e 32 inch version(titanium).

Do not get the GD7E! There is no backlight adjustment, and picture options are very limited. The GA6 is a much better set (panel is the same, there's just no freeview tuner or crap menus)

The GA8, GA9 and GD9 are due next month: http://www.cheapelectricals.co.uk/ac...elevisons.html

I'd personally go with Sony though, but there is a bit of a price premium for the V.

Less than there was 2 weeks ago (if I don't laugh I'll cry). Empire Direct has it for 1300 or so and you can exploit... I mean, use the Sony cashback thing by buying a DVD recorder, getting the 100 pounds cashback, then eBaying it

Personally I thought it was a very capable set. The price it goes for, it's probably the 'best' in that range. It offers backlight adjustment (unlike the GD7) and excellent performance over non-HD inputs too.

The new GA range (like andrewfee said) looks tempting, but wait to see if there's backlight adjustment on these. Looking at Sharp recently, they could very well remove it from these new sets. The Sony V and S look like the next best options.

Just to say, I took a few quick shots of the V in action last night for AV Forums, if anyone is interested. It's all freeview, and just whatever was on at the time. (channel hopping)

Left the camera pretty much in full-auto mode, and shot them handheld. Haven't done anything other than crop / resize them.

After much moaning to John Lewis i've been promised a full refund and am tempted to try out a Samsung to see if it fairs any better. Does anyone with one of these sets notice much blur/smear?

              Cheers, H
Samsung are bringing out there M71 series around august time over here and is meant to have the addition of "smooth motion" which is meant to up the frame rate slightly so camera pans are smoother and don`t blur. Plus it will have the addition of 2 HDMI ports, so it might be worth keeping an eye out on this set.

              Can see details here http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=330494

I know nothing really about TV's but i saw a 50 inch DLP TV in my local Makro and the picture was amazing! can't remember the make but i think it was a samsung. it was only about ?899+VAT.

What's the deal with DLP's they any good??
Why they so much cheaper then large Plasma and LCD?
                    cheers

Just a heads-up, mate bought a Sharp 26E50E from Asda the other day, as they list it as HD-Ready (with the logo). When we got home, we found the screen res was 920x540 (or something like that - designed to be a 'compromise between HD and PAL) which accepted 720p/1080i, but was obviously not HD-Ready. Certainly the box never had the logo either.

Now I work at Asda and can tell you we are NOT trained in this stuff. No member of staff has any reason to even know what HD is, they just don't bother training us... and the incorrect information card for the Sharp 26E50E with the HD-Ready logo is a card we're sent from head office... no-ones fault really.
Spoke to the guy there, he assumed it was HD-Ready since it sported a port clearly labelled 'High Definition Multimedia Interface' (HDMI, duh). Fair enough. Explained to him why it was not, he was cool with it, though he recognised me from work anyway, that might have made things easier.

Anyway, exchanged it (it was unopened anyway) for the Baier ?429 HD-Ready one they've got. Pretty mediocre tbh, less than clear VGA and Component has annoying shadow, but my mates happy with it.

Anyway, just a warning to not necessarily take the cards as gospel, even if they sport the logo. Make sure the box itself does too.

I'm so close to ordering one of these:

I've never seen such a stunning looking tele! It's meant to be quite a performer too.

Has anyone here had any contact with one of these? Also, do you think 8 feet is pushing it for a 42" display?

                        Cheers, H

hmm, pretty accurate skin tones on andrew's little sony set... take much fiddling to get those or was it fairly accurate to start with?

It's pretty good out of the box. Andrew's still waiting for his calibration stuff to come back so there's been no colour tweaking as far as I'm aware.
