Yea i set mine to 1280x720 too. 1360x768 SHOULD be the resolution used because the scaller in the 360 is MUCH better than the scaller in the TV. But 1360x768 is a softer looking image than 720. I just use whatever looks best to my eyes.

Edit: I do mean 720 yes

Assuming you mean 1280x720, cause 1280x768 does some wierd cropping.

But yeah, I do find the 1360x768 output to be softer, but I reckon the scaler in the LG is pretty good.

Damn TV has just died on me, Samsung LE26R41B. Just went into standby by itself and now does little else apart from flashing it's little LED at me.

Good news is I've called Samsung and they should be sending a replacement during the weekend as part of the world cup special service. Bads news is I'm not in and will have to relly on my very hungover housemate to let them in.#

          Edit

Woo Fixed and it only took them three days to get the guy out, pretty impressed

Righty guys, on the bottom floor of my building their is a giant 60 odd inch SONY CRT,
It has some kind of weird processing that makes EVERYTHING look like BBC live footage.

It makes lost look like I'm a celebrity and films look like documentaries, it is really odd.

Is this what 100hz TVs do or is it something more sinister than that?

It's not a 100hz thing, but it's a gimmick some TVs have called Frame Interpolation. Sometimes they call it something like "Dynamic Motion" etc.

Worse still if you watch a music channel or something else that has text constantly fixed at the bottom of the screen, the TV'll get confused and big lumps of text will "swim" around for a few frames and move along with moving objects.

There must be a way of turning it off, but thankfully most TVs don't do it.

Its really freaking creepy , everything looks wrong.

Adverts are really weird to watch on it.

Anyone bought the Samsung WS32Z409TQX CRT HD-TV w/HDMI. It's getting mixed reviews on AV Forums

Most people who have bought it seem happy enough with it, but i'd like more opinions on the TV from gamers.

Can't speak from experience, but the reported geometry problems are bound to wind any gamer up the wall. There's some pics earlier in the topic. Slim + CRT is a bit of a bad mix.

Just might get rid of my HD LCD (Samsung L26...).

Essentially I've had a mid life gaming crisis and decided to take a step back from next gen and have sold my 360. Now this means that I can't see me having much use for HD in the next few years, I will eventually get another 360/PS3 but not for a while, and to be honest I haven't seen any LCDs displaying SD at a level acceptable to me and the Samsung is one of the worst.

So just bluesky thinking at the moment, but any widescreen CRT recommendations 26-32" and whats the best way to sell my TV don't really fancy ebaying it.

Could well change my mind in the next couple of days, after all normal tv is fine and upscaled DVDs look great, just weighing up the options at the moment.

I'm in the same boat, I've sold my 360 so I don't really have a use for HD. Might "downgrade" to something else.

The problem is that there are no top-class CRTs around anymore - we'll probably never see a CRT as good as the Sony Trinitrons again.

My guess would be that your best bet is to get an SD plasma (Panasonic PD60) but their 852x480 resolution seems to have been designed with NTSC in mind, rather than PAL's 1024x576. (but due to convergence etc it's not likely a current CRT will show full resolution)

480p is a big step over 480i for gaming though, in my opinion, so I couldn't go back to a CRT again, unless we got some "proper" ED / HD CRTs here. (like a monitor, rather than the crap TVs we get)

EDIT: The "better" LCDs like the BRAVIAs do a much better job with SD than the "mid-range" LCDs like Samsung, LG etc. But native resolution (or downscaling) will almost always look better than upscaling.

At ?900 for the 37" Panasonic, it sure is tempting, although the lack of VGA is disappointing.

PAL's never been anything near 1024 horizontal.

My bad; I keep forgetting that it's really around 720x576 (iirc?) and widescreen images are stretched out. (recordings off my PVR play back at 1024x576 through VLC, as it automatically stretches things out)

Regardless, it'll still be downscaling - not that it's going to be such a bad thing.
