The only ways to counter this problem was to either turn the set on/off or hit the TV fairly hard...well, that is until the TV took a turn for the worse and decided to stay blue constantly. =/
this suggest to me that there's an imperfection in the tube and there's something floating about in it... i've had this problem on a lovely old B&O tv. adjusting the screen voltage makes it disappear but can also reduce the working life of the set. the part about hitting it to make it disappear seem to go with this...

the bit about your scart problem is confusing though, if it's a tube problem (which it sounds like) it'll be blue on everything, not just the scart... i know for a fact my non official dreamcast rgb scart is a little blue but this doesn't help you!!

Actually, it does help me a little. Your dreamcast RGB scart lead sounds like an old RGB scart lead I used to have. The screen would be constantly blue when using that scart, although you could change it back to normal sometimes by moving the scart around in the socket. It seems like my TV has the same sort of problem, the only difference being that it's the socket and not the cable.

I'm going to send it back to Littlewoods for them to check it over... knowing my luck, they'll see that the screen isn't blue full-time and tell me it's all four of the different RGB cables I've tried.

Hey there, was wondering if someone can help, today I took delivery of my new 26" R74 from Lxdirect, excellent TV but it's got a big red dead pixel in the centre of the screen at the top, am I right asking for a replacement as it does stick out a lot on darker screens, would be very grateful if someone could give me some help! Cheers.

EDIT: Found a blue one on the left hand side too about 5 inches in so that makes two lit ones now.

Tell them you want a replacement and that the dead pixels are constantly visible.

Especially with a red one in the middle, it should be easy to return.

Thanks will call them first thing

If they give you the usual quote about manufacturers' tolerances just tell them you appreciate that but at the end of the day the screen doesn't sit well with YOUR tolerances and they're visible from a "proper viewing distance" (I hate that pompous phrase but it seems to work).

I phoned LX direct who told me to phone sammy, I refused to saying that it's an unrepairable fault, they are sending me a new one on monday! If you know what to say you can generally get around them fobbing you off sending you to the manufacturer.

My LG had a dead pixel. massive bright blue bugger.....but after a week or tw it has dissapeared, just give it a few days fro the screen to settle in and then see if its still there.

Also there is a few PC apps ( if you run a pc into it ) that will continually flash colours on the area of the screen with teh stuck pixel. Think thats what helped with mine,

App is called UDPixel.well worth a try

Funny you say that, both my screens are LG (LG 26LX2R and Flatron L1915S) and had two or three dead pixels on arrival, none of which are present anymore.

My 26Lx2R has one dead pixel near the centre of the screen. Was initially majorly pissed off, but It's only 1 out of 1,050,000 and it's totally invisible unless you have got your face about 3 cm from the screen. It doesn't bother me anymore.

                        Damnit, which TV!?

                        Hey

My Sony KV-28HX15U is driving me loco. I don't enjoy looking at the picture anymore, instead I wait for the screen to go blue and focus on the red outline while I wait.

After Littlewoods sending the set back without really helping the problem, I'm going to try and get a replacement, only problem being that I can't have a direct replacement anymore!

I don't know anything about newer TVs. I only started using RGB cables last year when I finally moved from my 21" Beko, something which 99% of people have been doing many years before!

Anyway... could you guys give me some advice about which TV to buy? I'm thinking about these ones...

                        1) Sony KDL-32S010U LCD
I rate Sony TVs highly. I know that my current TV offers excellent picture via RGB on the PS2/GC/DVD player. I'm hoping this TV offers the same excellent RGB support AND is good for HD.

                        2) Sony KDFE50A12U LCD rear projection
Let get this straight... 50", some excellent reviews, and it costs as much as the 32" TV above!? I must be missing something here. Would it be right for a PS2/GC gamer like me?

                        3) Panasonic TX32LXD60 LCD
I think this is the very same TV that the reviewers at animeondvd.com use, yeah? If so, I'm thinking this TV might just be good for me. The only worry I have is if it supports RGB as good as Sony TVs do...I've never used Panasonic before.

                        4) Samsung LE32R74BDX LCD
I feel fairly mixed about this TV. I'm sure it'll be good for HD later this year, especially for the price it costs. But like I said above, I want something that's both good for the future and good for using older consoles with, and with Samsung sets are said to have terrible RGB support...

If it helps at all, I only really want to use my TV for gaming and DVDs.

                        Thanks,

                        Dan

I can't talk about rear projection because I've never used those, sorry.

I'd get the Sony (no surprises for that being my opinion). If you go to www.dvdtimes.co.uk and read my review of the Sony BRAVIA HDTV there, then the same will count for that model you posted as well - just disregard the parts about the Wide Colour Gamut.

People have told me that the Panasonic one is good but nobody seems to be raving about it - apparently it's a step down quality wise from last year. All of the manufacturers have made cheaper TVs this year (Sony's designs now use a "system on a chip" and the new TVs are incredibly lightweight, over last year's versions where the backs of the panels were literally crammed with boards) and some manufacturers have come out worse because of it than others.

The Panasonic has no backlight adjustment in the menu but you can adjust it via the service menu apparently. The Sony has full backlight control AND a power saving mode which not only saves power but drops the backlight further for nice realistic black levels and smaller power bills!

I can't see any reason to buy the Samsung. IMO they had their place in the market last year when 32" Sonys still sold for 1800, but now everyone has sort-of-reasonably priced LCDs.

Great review, you've got me convinced. I want it!

I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it just yet. I'll have to phone Littlewoods Monday and play my face, hopefully they'll let me exchange my current faulty Sony CRT for the KDL-32S2010U, or even better give me my money back so I can save ?400 by ordering it online.

If I get lucky, do you think you could help me by giving me a good idea of what I should do with the picture settings? It sounds like there are loads of settings you have to change before you can appreciate how good the picture looks.

Oh, and what are the main differences between the S and V models? They look the same to me, lol.

Edit: Ignore the last question - I just noticed you have a Q&A thread about BRAVIA.

I bought the TX32LXD60 and IMHO on the plus side the picture is superb but on the downside the more I look at it in comparison to other kit I've seen it looks a bit plastic (even thought it outprices a lot of the other stuff).

Its worth noting that some of the functions are pretty basic for a piece of kit at this price, no VGA or Audio outs (you have to use one of the scarts). The configuration for viewing is pretty basic too, just contrast, brightness and a couple of presets, that said the pre sets are awesome.

Also on the plus side are the 2hdmi's (one of the the main reason I bought it) and on my XBOX360 so far no noticeable blurs or some of the other criticisms I have heard leveled at other sets.

Only thing I would say is that the first set I had had a permanently lit pixel (probably about 5 in a cluster about 4 inches up from the middle), if you think a dead pixel sucks try a permanently lit one! Every dark program or game where it became dark and atmospheric I spent all my time looking for the damn thing. That said I complained and got a new set, they tried to say it was just one of those things but I stuck to my guns and the engineer was pretty good and supported what I had said.

If you want something to configure to your own personal viewing preferences or to use as a monitor it may be worth considering soemthing else. But if like me you want something straight out the box that impresses and has 2 HDMI's its a no brainer.

A bit of a crappy place to mention this really, but don't think it warrents a new topic...
