I think his was a 52"(?) screen and it really was stunning to see the quality on it.

I would have been interested if I hadn't decided on a Sony 55" SXRD
3 year guarantee included! Wonder if they'd chuck in a free Pot Noodle and a packet of those fake Mars Bar type things too?

Hopefully this is the right thread...
I'm looking to purchase an LCD TV that is 20" and HD ready. Could someone help me out please? Total noob when it comes to TVs, it's a replacement for my 14" Phillips CRT.
It has to be under or around the £500 mark and not from Aldi.
I was thinking of this in silver (Sony KDL20S2020U 20" S-Series BRAVIA TV). Any thoughts?
Just found out it's £396.99 incl. delivery at Dabs.com (linky), is this a good price?
Will be using it for general TV viewing and Xbox 360 gaming sessions in the bedroom. Please help!

I'm looking to buy an LCD as well, primarily for gaming (PS3 and 360). Not particularly arsed about using it for DVDs or TV, so a monitor would do I suppose, but if it's a proper TV then that'd be a bonus.
Not looking to spend more than 500. In fact, 300-400 would be better. Nothing too huge as well (no more than 26 inch I reckon), since it's only for my bedroom.
I was looking at this in the bargains thread the other day
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/PROD/657/...ml?&P36=5AAFGC
but looking at LG's site, it doesn't appear to have HDMI after all.
I'm also a total noob when it comes to TVs and that, so any suggestions?
Cheers

TV dilemma
Right I'm in the following position. I currently have a 32" Sony Bravia V2000 and while I'm very happy with it I want something bigger. Luckily my old man's ancient CRT is on the way out and he's looking to get an LCD so I made a deal with him and he will take the V2000 off my hands for a nice price.
Now I have 2 options, I can get a similar TV only in a bigger size or get a 1080p one. After searching around I narrowed it down to getting a 40" or 46" V2000 or the new Sony KDL-40 X2000 which is full HD.
Needless to say the X is a lot more expensive but I'm willing to shell out for it if does what I want it to. Basically what I need to know is:
1. Will 720p signals look equally good (or better) on it as on the V2000, considering it will have to upscale and most things i play on it are in that resolution.
2. Will it accept 1080p through VGA without problems? Mainly for watching HD DVD movies through the 360.
3. Will 1080i look better on it compared to 720p TV's? I ask this because I use my Oppo dvd player to watch SD movies and found 1080i looks quite ugly on the V2000.
4. Is there anything else I should be aware of?
Edit: Keep in mind waiting for newer models and such is not an option, my dad needs a new TV soon so I'll have to buy it within a month or so.

If the X is too expensive, and you're not sure you want a V, it sounds like the W will be perfect for you, as it's right in-between the two price-wise.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Sony displays - they do most things well, but I just don't like the colour reproduction. (it's a love it or hate it thing)
If you consider a plasma, just be warned that they are not perfect for motion as some people claim (though they generally are better than LCDs at keeping sharpness with motion) however you need to be sure you're not one of the few people that can see the green phosphor "trails" which make most plasmas totally unwatchable in my opinion:
That said, I'm selling my WLT68 to go for something bigger - hopefully 50" so I'm having to consider plasma now, as LCD in that size is as expensive if not more. (I'm wanting to see how the 8G Pioneers turn out, and see if I still have problems with the phosphor trailing on them)

Lcd's are not as good as Plasma and 1080p is well over rated in my opinion. You can get the new Panasonic PX70 range Viera's for a lot cheaper last years models. I bought a 37" with a pedastal for £784 delivered from Gultronics and the 42" can be bought for less than a grand. They have lower resolutions but you'd be hard pressed to find a rival from any 1080p LCD. The colours and black levels just smash any LCD I've seen properly calibrated.
Not impressed with the Sony V & X ranges at all, so over priced I whince everytime I see one bought at retail.
