The LG 32LX2R is essentially the same as the 26LX2R many people have here (myself included).

It's a brill screen, does RGB Scart better than most screens, has a DVI-I and HDMI (and supports both TV and PC standards of both, so you can connect your PC to either), and the DVI-I is VGA compatible (you can get a cable on ebay to split the DVI-I into separate DVI-D and VGA ports). Obviously has Component.

    Recommended, IMO.

Thanks, the reason I'm checking it out is that the manager for the TV-section in the store I work loves the LG-TVs .. but then I started to search for reviews on the net and came across this and the Sony seems to be getting better reviews. It seems the 32" in that price range is pretty good (I see 37" for less, but I'm sceptic to their performance) and I think the LG can accept NTSC 3,58 although I can't seem to find it in the specification details on various websites.

My dad just bought a new TV this week, a 32" JVC, seemed to get a good writeup everywhere, had component input for progressive scan, 2 RGB inputs, nice good TV for him as he wouldnt be using HD for a while.

So he got it, loved it, and took it back. His girlfriend doesnt like how big it is in the room so wants an LCD which I told him a million times will be pointless as it will look worse now getting an HDTV when your just using SD content.

But thats what he's getting now so just looking for advice on which to get that will make SD stuff look the best, at least 32" and ?1000 is the limit.

32" is pretty small, so as long as your friend isn't sitting super close to the TV then SD content isn't going to look that blocky... just a bit blurry. (which is how it looks on an SD TV anyway)

It's only when you get to the larger sizes that you really start to look at SD-TV and think 'wow, this is really a pile of crap!'.

As for which one to buy, I'm happy with my 42" Toshiba but I haven't seen the 32" model. I do quite like the Samsung LCDs personally but I gather they have no backlight control which would make it pretty naff in a low light environment. My Tosh has full backlight control but I'd still describe it's black levels as at best rubbish in a dark room.

i need to a new tv guys, need mucho help! roughly 26-30" i dont want to spend too much on one but it has to have all the latest features and inputs, also wouldn't mind getting a HDMI multi-region dvd player/recorder with divx/xvid playback to go with it too.

Not many sets have dual HDMI and VGA. The Toshiba ones do which makes them a good deal to my eyes. I have the 42" one and it cost me ?1350 or so. It's an excellent TV and really looks stunning on BBC HD running at the panel's native resolution of 1920x1080.

The built in Freeview tuner is pretty good too.

can anyone tell me the difference between these two other than one is silver and the other is black?

The U-Series (KDL-<size><series number><version number>)are designed to be cheaper than the S-Series. I haven't seen one in the flesh yet but my spidey sense and contacts tell me that the video processing probably isn't as good as the black one.

Well for a start, one has built in Freeview

Both do. If it's a Sony TV, "KDL" means it has a digital tuner and "KLV" means analogue but you won't see that these days.

                              Didn't know that - thanks.

Whilst on the subject, if I already have a sky box, I assume there is no benefit to get a TV with a built in Freeview receiver - correct ?

(I am sure this is a real stoopid question, but all this new fangled TV stuff baffles me!)

That's right, but digital/analog hybrid tuners are the norm now so you'll get Freeview whether you like it or not, basically.
