My Panny TV speakers sound perfectly ok on first listen, but even outputting to my old Denon hifi (stereo) it sounds much better.
I'm looking at Kef 2005.2 plus Denon 2106 or equivalent for surround, or maybe the new Yamaha YSP-800 just because I'm a techie kind of guy and the idea sounds funky.

      Anybody with experience?

Yamaha Electronics demoed and displayed two new components it added to its revolutionary Digital Sound Projector line: the YSP-1000 and YSP-800. These new successors to the YSP-1 form a complete

One is the light sensor, the other is the remote sensor. (should've been in the middle with the Power button imo)

To check firmware version, you have to go into the service menu. Put the tv into standby and press info, menu, mute, then power on the remote, and the service menu should overlay whatever input it was last on. (note: this will clear all your picture settings) The version numbers/date will be displayed at the bottom left. Don't touch anything else in there, and just hit power on the remote to turn the tv off after making a note.

If the set was bought before August 22nd (iirc) or has older firmware than that, then it's succeptible to the tearing issue.

I was told to expect an engineer some time between 13:00 and 17:30 today, and no-one has turned up. I think the phone dept. must've closed at 17:00 though, no reply. (service centre, not Samsung themselves)

The TV is completely screwed now - it was lasting 10-15 minutes before, but it's been on since 11am and still going!!! The 4:3 bars aren't even black!

Haven't wanted to touch anything, so I've left it on ABC1 which it was on when I turned the set on. (external box, but I don't know if widescreen switching will affect it or not)

EDIT: Just playing RE4 and why is there like, little squares and lines in the smoke and when you shoot? Also why does it look so poor?
Find your Ps2 manual, its definately in there!

Resi does look poor though 480p, it's either the gamecube doesn't do certain kinds of transparency well, or maybe gamecube devs are givin a secret book of tools to make games look great through standard connections. I've got a feeling its the latter, as I've come across a few games like this. Also if you try fable on xbox in 480p, its looks fecking horrible, but looks gorgeous when in 480i

had a fairly quick 'demo' of it not too long ago, it uses the walls to bounce the sound off... it DOES work in that you can hear things behind your head but in comparison to a proper 5.1 setup it's poor at best. also only works properly in rooms which are rectangular, and the sound it kicks out aside from the 'surround' effect isn't that good.

nice idea and looks a little neater than a full on setup but it just falls short imo, one to please the wife really.

                and it costs ?750, ouch

ouch? hardly... b&w nautilus speakers are 'ouch' 17.5k EACH plus another 5k for some decent amps to run the sodding things.

but we're wandering from the point.

?600, but you really need to get a sub to compliment it.

It's cheaper than getting an amp and 5.1 speakers but the quality is lower, granted. It does, however:
                    - keep the room tidy
                    - use funky new technology that I can play with

Well my set up is done (for the time being) as I got my sammy 26" lcd today and love it - so clear and sharp, will post more when I`ve had a better play about with it.
Sound is backed up with a set of 5 Bose cubes and sub.

alright, read the manual borris and it says its only there when playing a disc recorded in ntsc format! Thanks for the help! Any idea what discs are?

                        Thanks!

that'd most likely be a disc bought from japan, or the odd UK release that is NTSC only

I'm not sure about LCD's deal with HD, but wouldn't the resolution have to be a minimum of 1080x720 to be a HDTV?
