Why isn't it allowed? Seems pretty odd

Thats more or less the TV that I use for gaming (minus the built in dvd-player). An absolute shocker sadly and looks worse than my 10 year old + sony CRT

Possibly the only thing thats decent about it is that its a pretty good PC monitor, although the max resolution is 1200x700 odd which is lame and if my current xbox looks like a ****ing dog's mess on it, then I may as well not bother with the 360 - I have enough paperweights!

Don't worry, the 360 will look mint on it, connect it with a vga and you'll be off

Called up EmpireDirect first, hoping that they would be able to sort this out or give me credit etc, but they just basically told me to piss off and call samsung. Didn't want to hear about it.

Gave Samsung a call, and after waiting on hold for 5 minutes, then explaining everything to three different people, I was told that all they can do is send it in for repair again. The last person I spoke to was a senior customer care representative, and said that they will either have it working properly, or they will give me the option of a replacement set or credit. Unfortunately, neither option is satisfactory. The set is too big for me, and there's no way I'll be buying the 26" Samsung now after this, and what the hell am I going to do with ?900 of credit with Samsung?

I don't want any of their products, and as far as I'm aware, there's nothing they sell that is of any interest to me, other than televisions. (which were, but aren't now)
I worked at the customer care center (based in Edinburgh) as a Escalation (complaints) agent liasing between head office and the edinburgh site for 2 years until march this year. Outsorced support at its worst.

The credit note will be for the retailer you purchased the set through. Samsung dont sell direct and rarelay offer replacments.

Well, after weeks of um'ing and ah'ing, I've finally taken the plunge and just ordered the JVC LT32DS6

I didn't think they sold directly, but that's the impression I got from the guy I spoke to. Thanks for the info.

I'm not as bothered about credit, as ED now have the latest Philips models listed. Last time I checked, they didn't have any of the new models, so I didn't think they were stocking them, which worried me. I was planning on picking up the next revision of the 37" screen, rumoured to be coming some time in the first half of next year. (my original plan was to downsize to 26" but I'm interested in a 1080p screen, and love the idea of ambilight, which is only found on the larger models - the 37" also has the fastest response time as well)

Specs are apparently going to be pretty much identical, but it will have Philips' new "ClearLCD" technology. (100/120Hz strobing backlight)

As long as the credit doesn't have a "use-by" date, then I should hopefully have that much around the same time as it's released.

The other issue is what I'll do in the meantime though; I don't want to take back my 28" CRT from my parents, and don't want to go back to low-res... but I also don't want to spend a lot of money for something that's only going to last me 6 months or whatever.

1280x768? Almost all LCD HD screens are. Or 1280x720, or 1366x768.

As my manager currently has a Sony TV, it appears she can only replace what she has under her insurance plan with any Sony.

So she's looking at the Sony KDLS32A12 32" widescreen LCD. Any thoughts?

ok just checked to see if my ps2 has a 480p option like you said and no it doesn';t? All there is is some options for widescreen, sharpness etc. Is it not on my version? I have the model #schp 70002

480p (and 1080i for GT4) on the PS2 is dependent on the game. Some just don't support it, some have it in the options (GoW) and some require you to hold down X + Triangle whilst the game loads (Burnout Revenge) and will then prompt you for a confirmation.

                          Check out compatible titles here:

All the games I mentioned above are based on my US versions. I don't know if PAL versions of them support 480p but I do know GT4 PAL does not have 480p or 1080i in the options like the US version does.

most of the ps2 games listed there do support it in the pal ones

its on the same page as the DNR and you have to turn it to progressive on. obviously you have to have the component cables connected

Having now had my Samsung 26" LCD (freeview model) for a few days I have noticed something that is bothering me...but I don't know if it is normal or if it is a defect with my screen.

When viewing either freeview or normal television...sometimes I get like a flickering line along the very very top of the picture...I haven't noticed it whilst playing games....so I don't think it's actually a physical problem with the screen?

Do you guys with Samsungs (or anyone with LCDs actually) experience this occasional flicker at the top of the screen?
