Looking at getting either one of these and could do with forum opinion! There's a $100 difference between them but while the Philips is a good 10inchs bigger (I was swayed to that) there's some iffy reviews on Philips plasma's.
So either this - Panasonic 32" LCD HDTV (TC32LX60)
OR
Philips 42'' HD Built-in Plasma tv 42PF7321A

Taurus,
Its going to come down to what you are going to use the TV most for.
If you are using it for gaming and HD viewing I would go with the LCD.
If you want it to watch SD and DVD I would suggest the Plasma (although not necessarily the Philips), Panasonic is probably a better bet.
You will get divided opinion as to which technology is the best for you.
My advice would be to get a demo and see for yourself.

You'll get a completely different look between LCD and plasma, so seeing them yourself is the only option here.
Also that plasma is 1024x768 so it's not a true widescreen set. This will only bother you if you want to use vga from a 360. Component will be fine. I've viewed a panasonic plasma with similar weird resolution and it looked lovely. An LCD would look slightly crisper if you had the 1-1 widescreen pixel mapping but the plasma will look better for displaying SD stuff like your old consoles, presuming the philips scaler is up to the job.

Thanks guys.
I've already seen the Panasonic picture and it's awesome. Like I said, for an extra 100 I could get another 10 incher, just haven't seen that in action yet.
Prob go for the Panasonic as of now, primary use would be my 360, but was thinking about the HD-DVD add on for it.
Thanks again!

Well I've just spent a long time taking literally hundreds of measurements off my 37WLT68, as I came across some fantastic 3rd-party software for my Spyder 2 sensor that lets me visualise the adjustments I'm making much better than before. (particularly colour settings, which is why they're so drastically different)
As far as I'm concerned, these are the only settings to use on the 37WLT68's, and I don't plan on making any more changes:
Back light: 1
Contrast: 100
Brightness: 58
Colour: 44
Tint: +10
Sharpness: -50
Black stretch: Off
MPEG NR: Off
DNR: Off
Colour Temperature: Normal
Colour Management: On
Red: 0 -4
Green: -6 -9
Blue: 0 -6
Yellow: -5 -5
Magenta: +2 -7
Cyan: -9 -7
Active Backlight Control: Off
Cinema mode: On
Active Vision M100: On
I did a bit of testing, and black stretch seems to dynamically adjust the gamma, making the image a lot darker, but I've yet to see shadow detail totally disappear with it on, so if you prefer a darker look, you might like it.
I prefer to turn Active Vision M100 off for gaming. (and I usually disable cinema mode unless I'm actually watching a film; but if you don't want to mess with it, leave it on)
EDIT: Adjust the backlight as you see fit, of course, but I find 1 to be the best setting for viewing in a dark room. (though the set does seem to take longer to warm up like this)Last edited by andrewfee; 16-02-2007, 06:11. Reason: Made a mistake and had 47 for colour instead of 44.

Sorry to be a pain!
Gettin' the tv tommorow now but found this: Samsung 42" DLP Projection HDTV (HL-S4266W)
Same price as the Panasonic I have in mind and seems to have the same good write up's.
Samsung seem to have a good, popular rep, was wondering if anybody has experience with this model? And yes, will check it out when I'm in the store!

Taurus I've got the 32" Panasonic that you mentioned and it is superb. I'm surprised that there hasn't been more of a mention of it on theses pages but hey ho. The SD picture is excellent (I know a lot of people have problems with SD content on their LCD's) but I get a better picture on the Panasonic than my 28" Toshiba CRT.
I use the 360 via component and the wii via component. You'll have no problems there. Also recently got the HD-DVD add on, again no complaints there although thinking about it I'd prefer a bigger screen to get the most out of it.
Its certainly the best 32" screen I've seen out of all the big name brands and I looked at a fair few.
