That was in context of the older ones (being able to clearly see it). It's visible on the VT20, but not much.

Can anyone give me any idea whether this TV is decent or not? Looking to get a new set (40 or 42''), mostly for gaming but also for TV and movies... Budget £550.

Bottom line: phosphor lag exists but is vastly decreased, and it is the best HDTV on the market right now. It is a KURO-beater in some respects.
Hodge: I don't think anything is available to consumers yet, but you should pick up a player (I say that so casually!) and 3D Blu-ray Discs when they start to appear. I'm a bit of a convert...
It is a Kuro beater but in only one aspect, it gives a cleaner sharper image but thats it, everything else Pioneer wins hands down.
What you have to remember is, is that there both targeted at different ends of the market, Pioneer is a small manufacturer that was making a high end product, Panasonic's consumer range is not in the same league, there professional range on the other hand is a different matter.
This is the next best thing to a 9th gen Kuro http://www.tlcbroadcast.co.uk/panaso...lay-p-467.html but as you can see at ?8000 its not exactly in every ones price range. Pioneer was making this kind of quality for half of what the VX100 costs hence why they do not make any more tv's.

Other than this I wasn't very impressed with the amount of image retention these sets have. Very worrying if you are a gamer.
I dont think there will be anything to touch the KRP for the next couple years.

The Kuro thing actually (partly) stems from me, unfortunately. When I was donating time to AVForums, at CES I noticed that Panasonic's "Infinite Black Pro" prototype looked a hell of a lot like one of Pioneer's panels. Either it was the desert air or a prototype that actually had more in relation to the Pioneer TVs (the company's reps seemed to suggest the latter). In any case, the site hyped this point up to high hell, with headlines such as "The Return of KURO" and "Is KURO back in spirit?"
I would say it's an almost-equal match though. The Pioneer TVs were slightly darker and had almost no visible phosphor trails, but were more noisy and dithered. The Panasonics are cheaper, nearly as dark, and have less panel noise.
Oh, and the Panasonic TVs have a much nicer UI.
