        To check firmware version, you have to go into the service menu. Put the tv into standby and press info, menu, mute, then power on the remote, and the service menu should overlay whatever input it was last on. (note: this will clear all your picture settings) The version numbers/date will be displayed at the bottom left. Don't touch anything else in there, and just hit power on the remote to turn the tv off after making a note.

        If the set was bought before August 22nd (iirc) or has older firmware than that, then it's succeptible to the tearing issue.
        mine is july 15. should i just call samsung and get a kit to be sure? i have no way of watching things in 720p so i won't know. And i would rather have a good set before i get my 360. Also would it 100% HAVE the tearing issue, or is it hit and miss?

        EDIT: And should i ring customer care or service centre?

                I got the kit for mine, the reason it was sent back is because it would not update and it's down to a problem with the mainboard. So i'm waiting for them to get parts to replace it.

                The TV is a great TV, it's just when it gets sent away they took ****ing ages.

                  </partly joking>
                  (really, really not joking) How much does a 32" widescreen B&O set you back anyway, and are they really much better than something like the Samsung? Obviously I'd go and look before I spent anything like that money, but I have to say I'm curious, just based on how monumentally long the old B&O kit my family has lasts.

                    the 32" is ?6005 including sextacular motorised stand and the best tv speaker on the market today.

                      Ouch... What about the BeoVision 3? My uncle has one and I was just blown away - I didn't even notice that the copy of Aladdin we were watching was the VHS rather than the DVD until we got to some seriously red bits.

                      Mainly though, it's not an all-in-one, and I can't be arsed to scrap my current sound.

                        BV 3 comes in 2 flavours, 28" and ?32" fantastic tvs as you say... being discontinued now as everyone wants lcd/plasma. ?2600 and ?3065 respectively (from our store at least).

                          Anyone know the main differences between the Milano Samsung LCD's and the standard HD Samsung LCD's which most folks on here seem to be going for. This is the Milano here http://www.futurehome.co.uk/scripts/...?idproduct=526 quite a price hike over the standard versions, but the 40' seems to be winning all manner of awards.

                          I had my heart set on the Pioneer 436 plasma a couple of months ago, but there seem to be so many question marks over plasma's/LCD's and there all round abilities atm, that I had kind of decided to save a few quid and play it safe by going for a Samsung LCD for the time being, however this third option has now been thrown in to confuse me evenmore.

                          What would folks on here go for : 1) The Pioneer 2) The Cheaper Samsung or 3) the Milano ? The PIO is so sexy, but I really wonder if I would consider it a good waste of 2.5k in a few months time. 1k is easier to swallow !

                            only difference i can see is the 8ms response time... colleagues have seen these bad boys up and running and they say they're most impressive. personally i'm sat on my wadge of cash until i really require a hdtv.....

                              ah, thanks. Like I said, the processing is blimmin' gorgeous, and leagues ahead of what you see on most sets.

                                Sounds good, but do they not need to start employing some sort of blank frame technology when the responce times get that low. Was reading an article on PC monitors and it seemed to be implying that the motion blur effect which responce times were supposed to improve on, were now being caused by low responce times, as the human brain for some reason requires gabs between frames or it blurs them. In the article it said Samsung were not employing the technology to correct this effect, but maybe that has changed with these more expensive sets.

                                I to am sat on the same wadge of cash for a new TV, however the seat is getting more uncomfortable with the 360 coming, and the old TV threatening to blow up

                                edit : Do LCD's lose quality the larger they go, should you not currently look to buy over 32" ?
