Been considering getting one of these myself (only the next size down) but can't decide between it and the Sony Bravia KDL32V2000. Went over to AVForums to help choose but only left even more unsure.

I think Andrew will tell you that the Toshiba would be better. I've actually never talked to him about comparisons between the two in great depth but by the sounds of it, the Toshiba lacks the Sony's fault with SD sources that causes ringing around high contrast areas.

I believe it doesn't have the Sony's per-input settings though so most of the picture adjustments will be applied to everything you watch.

Andrew, fill us in, you've used both...

I was put off my the Toshiba's lack of ability to do 1360x768 VGA. Something to consider if you plan to use it with a PC.

I've never used a Toshiba, but I've never regretted getting a Bravia for a second.

Thank's Stakers, just read your write up. I think it's a good looking tv honestly, the only downside I have is the single component input. This sways me to the Samsung, though I have Charles advice in mind at this point. Great to know you've used the 360 HD-DVD too, anything you can add I'd love to hear

            Cheers guys!

If it's any consolation (And it's probably not, you don't know me from Adam! ), I have a Tosh DLP that I got just before Christmas 2004 and it's been absolutely fantastic. Deals with SD well enough and the HD stuff (1080i/720P) just looks incredible.

I owned both Tvs and the Toshiba wins hands down on features : 3xHDMI, 1080p support and on picture quality, inparticuarly SD content.

The only things that Sony does better are the per input settings (individual brightness/contract etc for each input) and a better remote.

In saying that though once I'd got the settings on my toshiba right, everything looked good anyway, so I've never felt the need to adjust them for different inputs.

I'd argue that 1:1 VGA is essential though if you use a television for anything more than gaming/DVD use. It's what attracted me to the Bravia - the option set, general picture quality and the fact it could handle multiple sources very well. Out of all the televisions I've used, it's certainly the one which has offered the strongest Component quality (it's pixel sharp/no ghosting/very good colour balance).

Both are great sets, but for different reasons. The BRAVIA has better black levels and viewing angles and has per-input settings. Personally, I wasn't happy with the colour reproduction, and the image seemed a bit on the soft-side though.

The WLT68 has great colour reproduction, excellent motion handling (with its Active Vision technology) and it produces a very sharp image. Apparently the speakers are better too, but all TV speakers sound crap to me anyway. You've also got a lot more inputs, and it'll do 1080p over HDMI/Component.

As for the VGA input; yep, the BRAVIA is better there for its resolution support, though I found the image to be very washed out when using my 360 with it. Due to the great scaling in the WLT68 though, you can send it 1280x768 and choose to stretch it fullscreen (rather than having a small border each side) with virtually no difference in quality.

Due to the push for "Full HD" now, and not having the Sony name (in my opinion only 1080p support is necessary if you're sitting more than 5/6ft back, rather than a 1080p native panel) the Toshibas seem to have plummeted in price, so they're a fantastic bargain now. You can get a 37WLT68 for around ?50 more than a 32V2000, and you can now get the 42" model for less than I paid to get the 37" when it launched.

Basically, you will be happy with either set, but if I was buying one for myself, it would be a Toshiba. (I had a 32v2000 and returned it)

Cheers for the info, Andrew (and Evil Boris), certainly leaning towards the Tosh now and heen the 32" model for £800 on Amazon. Extremely tempting...

No idea if it's any good but: 1024x1024 Hitachi 42" Plasma for £619

Another vote for the Tosh WLT68. Awesome TV and pisses on any other LCD's I have seen, including all of the Sony/Samsungs

My guess would be no... but at that price I'm sure it would make a great second TV or something.

Hitachi uses ALiS panels though; which means that they're interlaced, simliar to CRTs, so they display all the odd lines, then the even ones etc, even if you feed them a progressive signal. (a friend of mine with a Sony ALiS panel thought it looked great but not with HD)

I need to talk to Toshiba and see if I can get review samples of their upcoming LCDs (once they announce them that is). I want to be able to recommend something other than Sony stuff myself, but so far Sony have been extremely accommodating when it comes to review samples. Toshiba haven't yet managed to get me their HD DVD player...

Do you know if they're going to go back to 'fullHD' 1080 resolution with their next panels? A bit odd I thought that the WLT66 was 1080i, but the WLT68 was 720p.
