I think it's some kind of dynamic contrast or dynamic brightness thingy, I have it on my Samsung 1080P set and it's crap (the dynamic contrast, not teh telly ).

On my telly I think setting it to movie mode turns that kind of stuff off. Eventually I went into the service menu and turned off all the dynamic stuff and picture processing that I could, got a much better picture thanks to that. Have a look at AV Forums, that's where I found out how to adjust everything on my telly.

Just ordered a brand new 32WLT68 on eBay for ?630 inc delivery, a steal!

Cheers to everyone who recommended it over the TV I was originally interested in, the Sony KDL32V2000, you probably saved me around ?300 which I'll now put towards a Sky HD box.

Is there anyone using their 360 HD DVD drive for upscaling DVD movies via VGA? What it like, thanks.

Same as the upscaling using the internal drive - okay but nothing special.

It's just a drive, the HD-DVD addon doesn't enhance quality of standard DVD's or anything.

            Eh?

I never knew the 360 upscaled normal DVD's. I thought only the HD DVD drive did that via VGA!!!

360 can do it over VGA too... only VGA though!
The HD-DVD drive really is just a drive, there's no fancy chips in there or anything.

360 ain't region free for DVD's though, which is critical for me.

The 360 isn't a very good DVD player regardless of which drive you use. It's okay with progressive content, but as soon as it's given something interlaced it's pretty much random if it will know what to do with it. Sometimes it de-interlaces okay, but sometimes just discards half the lines and you end up with a video CD quality image.

VGA upscaling is basic stuff and probably won't look much different to how your HDTV would scale it anyway. If you want higher quality upscaling you're going to have to buy a high end stand alone, such as one of the Toshiba HD DVD players.

Kotatsu, does the 360 play PAL movies without any motion issues?

                  Comment

Over VGA, obviously it's all 60Hz. PAL movies used to judder badly, but they fixed that in a newer update.

Mind you, I tried one of my R2 NTSC discs on my 360 which I run over Component. It plays them at 576p (thus 50Hz) and they judder really badly.

What's the best way to clean my 32WLT68?

                      Comment

Microfibre cloth (damp if necessary). Guessing.

Having ummed and errred for bloomin ages and waited around to see how much the 1080p TH42PZ700 would cost (£2200!!), I've just ordered a TH42PH9 at slightly more reasonable £1170 (including wall mount, scart board, component board and component>>>vga lead). \o/

Just a word of warning. That company is listing their Toshiba's as 'Graded' stock. In otherwords there might be cosmetic marks on the TV, it might be a catalogue return or it might even be an ex-demo.
