I succumbed to temptation and just got a Pioneer 508XD...

First first impressions are a huge "wow". Coming from a half-decent 37" LCD (Toshiba 37WLT58), the step up in picture quality is huge. Blacks are black! And the image just pops out at you. Before buying I was worried about image retention, but no one in the 140 odd page thread at AV forums has had a problem with that, despite many of those being used to it on previous plasmas.

I've just set it up with some settings from AV Forums, and will just use those for a while.

For my 360 (I don't PS3 yet, and I haven't got round to setting up the Wii), I'm using VGA at 1280x720 and the picture is fantastic. The shadows in The Darkness are superb.

It wasn't cheap, but I'm very happy with it so far

Hey guys purchasing a new TV for the living room, preferably 40' or so, have done a little research and have decided on this:

What do you think? Is it worth the premium? What are the viable alternatives if any?

        Thanks for any input.

KDL-40W2000. Same 1920x1080p panel (I believe the LCD module is the exact same). I have one:

I think my TV is fuxxored.
I'm using a Panasonic jobbie, 4:3 and probably 26" or so that was left in my roof. Probably about 10 years old or so. It hadn't been turned on in 5 months or more.
Anyway, the picture's quite blurry. Looks like fairly poor composite even though I'm using RGB Scart (and yes I'm sure.) It's also quite dark, though this improves when put in via composite.

Thing is, it's nothing to do with the input signal. The actual menu graphics etc generated by the TV are indistinct and even the white noise is quite blurry. It do seem to improve slightly when I turn it on and off a few times, so I don't know if it's degaussing related. The end result though is that it's incredibly irritating to try gaming through. It's indistinct, and finer details are simply a mush.

Is there anything anyone can suggest, or is it buggered?

Personally I would not buy an LCD without 100/120Hz for decent motion handling or 1080p24 support for NTSC/HD movies that don't stutter.

While it's not 1080p native, I would personally go for the Sony 40D3000 series, as it's a better TV in all aspects bar native resolution.

Or you could wait until September or so (estimate) when the Sony W3000 is due which will be a 1080p native screen that does 1080p24 and 100/120Hz.

From what I hear there's no "W3000" any more. The new "V3000" will take its place and will be 1080p.

Or better still wait for the Pioneer Project Kuro 1080p plasmas to launch at the end of this year. 24fps and near perfect blacks, which is something an LCD can only dream of. They apparently beat any other panel out there by a considerable amount.

Yes, that too, if you're wanting to spend at least ?3500, though the current x768 models to seem to have some issues.

                        Samsung Full HD LCD

i was lucky to lay my paws on a Samsung Mosel Blaque 1080p 40" LCD TV. It has a dynamic contrast ratio of 15,000:1 refresh rate of 8msec,178 degree view,3HDMI and the usual I/O connections.
PS3 and x360 both BLOW!! except for some flickering issues on the PS3 at 1080p via HDMI,supposed to be some handshake issue..

                          Samsung LE40S86BDX 40" LCD TV

                          And this one

Compared to the equivalent Sony and Samsung 32'' models?

                          All help greatly appreciated

i've got a samsung LE32R51BD that i've had for about a year and a half.

But only recently it's started making this buzzing noise after using my 360 for a while. As soon as i shut the 360 down, this buzzing noise comes from the tv.Sometimes it's louder than others, but concerning nonetheless. Now,it could be buzzing all the time but i would'nt know as the 360 is so noisy it would drown it out.

So question is,is this normal,or is my set in trouble? oh and the 360 is the only thing i use on the tv.
