I'd love to see how one of them looks with the Wii hooked up though - you can disable overscan/any processing, and they have a 480p native screen.
The VGA board can run as RGBVH or Component.

The blacks don't compare to the 11th gen Panasonic Panels, they are strong in other areas but blacks aren't one of them.

Ah right, I forgot about that. You'd still only have one other input left though if you were to have two component boards and use the VGA.

What are you basing this on? (have you seen them?) I was under the impression that Panasonic was getting to 30,000:1 (if I remember correctly) mostly by increasing the brightness of the screen, rather than having darker blacks than the Kuros.

I've got a video processor on the way now, so if the new Panasonics have better blacks than the current Pioneers and they have a 1080p model around the same price the PZ70 is going for now, there's a good chance I'll be buying one of them. (I don't care about what the onboard processing is like, or how many HDMI inputs it has as long as it can do 1080p24/50/60 1:1 mapped)

I hear that the 9G Pioneers have had another significant drop in black levels this year too - equivalent to the same kind of drop they had from 7G to 8G. (I believe they said it was 80% last time)

It'll still be at least a couple of years until we see "perfect blacks" - whenever Pioneer decides to release those concept panels, but I'm getting sick of waiting, and if Panasonic have bettered Pioneer this time with their low prices, I might be able to settle on one for a couple of years.

It's a shame that Panasonic's commercial prices are still as high as ever and haven't been keeping in line with the consumer range. It used to be that you were about the same price, if not cheaper than buying a consumer model, but the TH50PF10 is around ?2k when the TH50PZ70 is ~?1225 now. I'd much rather have the thin bezel and a single input board than a "TV" now.

I saw the new panels at CES.

I was hoping for a 42inch 1080p commercial model too, but I can no longer wait so going for the 50 inch version.

I got myself a question if I can. I've bought a 40 inch Samsung LCD, while I know that they are good on the 360's (as it's what they use to show it off). How are they with Wii's and PS3's?

I have myself a 32 inch 720p Toshiba at the moment, which I will probably flog for on here about 300-350 quid as it's only a year old once I get the Samsung. Anyone know how much it would go for, is what I said a good price? As I said, 720p, 2 hdmi's, 2 scarts, and component. (Not sure on s video and all that though as don't use it)

PS3: no problem, same as the 360. Play some of the better Blu-ray Discs on it and you'll have big smiles.

Wii: it's never going to look too pretty because the Wii's video output quality normally just isn't very good.

Thanks for the info. I'm just worried a little bit about the quality jump. It better be a huge leap from the 720p 32 inch to this!

Anyone know how much I can flog my old one off for, preferably on here?

And yes, the Wii games do bug me already. :P

What model is it? The Toshiba like?

It woulda made sense to put the model huh? LOL

                      It's the Toshiba 32WLT66 32"

My old 42 inch LG Plasma is giving up the ghost (nasty red dots all over the screen, but it's well out of warranty so I'm going to have to replace it) and seeing as I've got a nice healthy collection of HD DVD and Blu Ray discs I thought I'd go for a 1080p plasma to get the most out of them.

At a price I can afford the best option seems to be the Panasonic TH50PZ70B 50 inch 1080p plasma. There are LG and Samsung screens of the same spec for the same price, but from everything I've read Panasonic seems to be held in much higher regard than those two.

Is there anything else around that would be worth looking at ahead of the Panasonic? Did a quick google and couldn't find any reviews of the Panny. Anyone have any experience of it, good or bad? Cheers in advance for any advice.

I have used that Panasonic quite a bit and would recommend it, especially if you have a HDMI 360 kicking about. General consensus on avforums is that the Pioneer 50" beats it, but at a £500 premium - not seen the 1080p 50" Kuro myself though.

I'd say go for it, it's very well respected over at AvForums and you'll pay another £2000 ontop of the price of the panny to get the 1080p Pioneer

Cheers for the replies, will probably go for it then. Buy it on the 9 months interest free and then forget about it (but I'll be come November).

Couple of quick questions for the future... might seem obvious to some, but hey I'm just asking heh...

                                1) What outputs does the Xbox360 support?
                                2) What's the difference between the 2000 and 3000 series for Sony Bravias?

As an addendum to that second Q, what is the best recommendation for a letter series (V,W,X etc) and number (2000, 3000, 3500 etc) on the Bravias?
