                Ooh what Onkyo you got??

I'm looking for a new amp myself to replace the ageing Yamaha & to go with the Kef Eggs I'm ordering this week

That is of course if Trev isnt interested (not trying to tread on your toe's Trev )

Anyway you set the Pioneer up yet???

they have a couple left at richer sounds for ?500 New .

But if i can get a decent 2nd hand one cheaper and save a few quid im happy with that

Looks awesome but that would be way beyond my meagre means & overkill for what I want.

Personally I'd be just as happy with a Denon 1910 or Onky 607/508

Basically I'm looking at about £200 second hand for my needs.

Hope you manage to get it Trev...will be a great purchase.

Soundwave, if it's not too late, have you had a Kef Egg demo? I only ask as I went through all the lifestyle speaker choices, and hearing the Kef Eggs (the newer model), well TBH mate I thought they sounded ****. A monstrous hole in the sound you could drive a bus through. No mid bass for a start, but beyond that, they lacked spark.

I ended up gettingthe Vibe Monolith "Plasma" set, which are wall mounted "lifestyle" speakers - much bigger than the Kef's, but they look fine on a wall in my lounge and sound stunning. You can also get them new off a company on eBay for than the Eggs. Can't emphasise how great these sound for lifestyle speakers.

                        Hey Matt,

I havent ordered them yet actually.
I've been looking at the KHT 1005.2
I'm gonna pop up to my local Comet this week for a listen but if you think they arent up to scratch then I might just give them a miss.

I have been considering the Q Acoustics Cinema Pack 2020 or Mordunt Short Alumni packages as well so will look into them more closely now & I'll deffinitley check out those Vibe Monoliths as well.

                        Thanks for the advice.

No problem man. I didn't get to listen to the Alumni, couldn't find them in stock near me. The Q-Acoustics are good, but suddenly you have speakers that look like speakers.

Nothing I heard touched the Monoliths. Basically, the standard pack comes with a couple of floor standers, a Monolith Two for center, and Monolith Ones for rears. The Plasma pack has three Monolith Two's for all the front - so tonally, sounds match as they move. The speakers themselves have, imo, very good bass for wall mounted speakers. The sub, which actually looks nice on the floor - though it's not the best sub around, it's more than enough for me.

The full pack for the floorstanders was retailing for £1800 or something. From what I understand, the issue was marketing. Vibe are a big car audio company apparently, and decided to jump straight in with a high end home cinema product. No-one bought it because no-one who buys that kind of stuff knew who they were. Thompson Ltd bought a load of stock off them and are selling them really cheap on eBay.

I have no affiliation with them, so we're clear I saw them by accident and looked up some reviews, where at £1800 they were top class performers! I was getting rid of my floorstanders and needed some wall mountables, so I spoke with them and they suggested the Monolith Twos instead of the Threes (Floorstanders). Guy called Julian, top bloke, no pressure on the sale, gave me what I consider very good advice, nice and patient over the month it took me to make my mind up.

                          Sorry, sales pitch over, lol

I was going to get some Eggs myself. When I demoed them, the 2005.3s so the latest ones, the guy messed up. I asked to hear them, and he turned on the amp. Specialist room with the Panny AE4000 projector hooked up, playing Kung Fu Panda. I was BLOWN AWAY by the sound. It sounded too good. And it was. He realised he still had a pair of £2k floorstanders hooked up to the amp, lol. When we jumped over to the Eggs, well, it was horrid. Now, if I'd listened straight to the Eggs first, I may well have had a different opinion, but I think you're so compromised with the audio, with the visuals of the Eggs being the main selling factor. And they do look very good.

The girlfriend joked that the Monoliths looked like fire extinguishers on the wall, but she quickly got used to them. If you happen to visiting Brighton anytime soon, feel free to pop in for a demo. I'm only running a budget Sony STR-DG820 amp, and still they sound infinitely better than the Eggs did on a grand Yamaha amp.

I know Vibe stuff very well...had a couple of mates with Vibe gear in their cars (I'm a BIG Car audio guy ) & can guess how good these will be

                            They look awesomely sexy

Had a quick google for them & found a place in Tunbridge that stocks them (Kent Home Cinema) & they also stock the Kef's & Q Acoustics so I think I'll take a run down there next weekend & demo everything with the Onkyo & Denon amps I've been looking at & see what combo sounds best & then rape the credit card lol

Thanks for the offer would deffinitley take you up on it at some point...missus has never been to Brighton & I've not been for a few years so would make a nice weekend soon me thinks

Same for you if you ever venture this side of the M25 then feel free to pop in for a cuppa

                            Thanks again Matt

hey lads set up my Pioneer SC-LX82 - sounds brill and I really like the iPod functionality along with the useful Kuro link.

Heres a pic of the unit in action:

                              Really happy with it!

I have the KEF KHT2005.3 Eggs to be honest I think they sound really good and have been happy with them ever since I brought them almost 2 years ago -but I am considering changing them as ive updated my reciever now.

Matt: Those speakers look good I'll look further into them.
