    Nice job

So many wall mounts have the thing so high up you'd need to be sitting 50ft away to view it without danger of neck cramps (people jamming them above fireplaces are the main offenders).

      Downstairs Lounge. THEME: Wife Friendly!

The key here was that we wanted to avoid cables and AV kit being on show. Well, not just avoid but totally eliminate! The TV (Pioneer XDE 43") is mounted on the back wall of the lounge. Behind the wall is the house "Machine Room" this houses:

      - Pioneer XDE Media box
      - HD Canal Digital Satelite TV PVR
      - Pioneer upscaling DVD Drive
      - Xbox 360 Elite (Primarily used for media streaming)
      - House Media Server (Vista) & External NAS
      - Gira 2000 home automation system (Lighting RF reciever)
      - Harmony 1000 RF extender (To pass IR to the devices)

The harmony remote should arrive tomorrow, and my aim is that the 5 zones of the house lighting will be added to the various tasks. So watching a film= Lighting Zones 1,2,4 & 5 off. Lighting Zone 3 = Dimmed.

Watching normal TV = Normal lighting and above TV slightly dimmed.

I am assured our Gira lighting are compatible with the harmony 1000, so fingers crossed! I am downloaded the latest drivers and the Gira System 2000 is listed.

The server room is a complete mess, and I am waiting for the rack and patch panel. I'll post pictures as I get on with it. I'm happy with the TV position, height & mounting.

Upstairs Lounge is the "Gaming/Cinema room", and I'll post pictures as I get on with it.

It's a tricky thing, but the balance is to have the uber geeky stuff hidden, and keep the living area tasteful.

            C_S, that is amazing!

That is the kind of setup that I dream of. I somehow think I was put into the wrong body and you are there living my life!!!

            Seriously though, lovely job.

              Yeah mate, nice stuff!

I should get a picture or two of my mates setup, it is the lushest thing ever with a bit 42 or 46" Samsung plasma.

                Thanks guys!

The setup works as a simple TV/media extender, but Plasma's really suffer with reflections. Part of the reason I'm building the games room upstairs is that the Projector/40 LCD will have the benefits of black out blinds.

Watching the news downstairs on a evening is fine, but I hate the reflections you get from the plasma when watching film. I have a row of spots above the screen and these do wonders, but even so I would warn against shiny screens for the future!

Mind you, they Look lovely when they are off! lol!

I'm drawing the rack & network diagrams for the house now, and I'm looking forward to racking it all up over the coming weeks. Sort of like a kit car project!

I have a GB switch downstairs, and then I'm using Homeplug AV (200mbs) as a network bridge to a switch upstairs.

                Super geeky fun!

What do you do about music in the lounge then? Or do you use the speakers in the TV?

I've set my plasma slightly above head height so that the only reflection is the plain wall behind me above the sofa. Although the main sofa is facing the TV so it's possible.

We have all music in the lounge from the Pioneer. In the kitchen we have a small Tivoli which will be connected to a media extender. The project to find a decent stereo system that is "Wife friendly" continues. There will never be 5.1 in the lounge.

We are "In between" sofa's at the moment, and hope to replace with 2 comfy chairs (Facing screen) and 1 2 man sofa on the side. When we have guests we will move the chairs to face the sofa.

The house has lots of windows in the lounge, and it's facing the sun. I can attach from the prospectus (Not out furniture) to show. This means that even with the blinds down I can see reflections during daylight hours.

The lounge upstairs will be my preferred gaming room, and I'm looking forward to that.

As for screen height I wanted it to be so that my head was in the middle of the screen when sat down. Higher than that does my neck in.
