Well the project has continued. I settled on having a small TV, (32") as the room has the projector. I went for a beamax Black projector screen & a Sony KDL-V4500 (720p version of the W4000) With 33,000 contrast and Bravia2 I was stunned by it's performance. Blacks way better than my Pioneer plasma! LCD certainly has improved. For a 40" TV the W4000 was the dogs, but @ 32" I just couldn't tell a difference between 720/1080 and as a PC screen it was easier with the 720p. The cost was cheaper too!
So now I have a whole bunch of boxes of furniture and screens to unpack and build...
In the meantime I've been playing with the new TV and have a few pictures:
Temporary gaming setup (Outside gaming room):
PS3 over HDMI, showing the Cross Media Bar
Sony HOME menu, now also using the Cross Media Bar! (Kewl...!)
Bad photo, but closeup of very good black reproduction:
360 over HDMI, wonderful colour reproduction for Sega Rally
....and finally the project room that I hope to be finished in 2 weeks!
Thanks for looking at my upstairs setup.

I'm finished with everything except mounting the projector & 5.1 setup. & I have a "Hiccup."
The screen is fairly small, 180cm Beamax R series, about ?180. Really nice Black bezel and superb winding mechanism. I opted for the manual version as the elctronic one (Same screen) is ?250 more!
I bought some really nice blinds that go on the window under the screen and also on the balcony door, but in the middle of the day you still get light bleed. I'm not fussed as I'm a winter/evening gamer anyway.
But the problem is a real show stopper.
The new Sony TV has a contrast ratio of 33,000 and frankly blows my Pio XDE out of the water for HD material & colour depth.
My HD projector is the AE-700 (2005 model, latest firmware) which I used to think was decent. But now moving from the 32" Sony the colours just look "Washed out". I kind of get used to it after an hour or so, but the die is cast. My show stopper is that I need a new Projector. **sigh**
I'll get the 5.1 setup done this weekend, (Cheap Creative setup, for the time being) and then start saving for a new projector and sound system....
I'm really happy with the cabinets (I've cleanup since the photos) and the PS3/Wii/360 all sit nicely in their slots. I have moved the WLAN to the back of the 360 now, and I am pleased to have huge ventilation at the back of the unit, so I am happy to close the door during play, which makes a huge difference to noise on the 360.
Anyway, I don't have "Tidy" photos yet, but the project is well on the way. The new Sofa arrived downstairs too, so only the paintings and bookcase left to finish the lounge.
Fairly happy with progress, just need to wait for the 1080p projector prices to reduce to less than ?1000....
