Daedalus is poor...but I wasn't expecting that to run well on a PSP really.

What software do people use? I'm using MDP02 and SNES9X.

SNES9X works well but things with hi res text like Secret of Mana really suffer on it due to the text becoming unreadable, is there a way to work around the hi res text on it?

I only seem to be able to get MDP02 running in Japanese though??? Is there any way to change the text or is there another Emu that works well? What Genesis Emu do people use here?

    Any assistance would be appreciated!

How difficult is it to upgrade to the latest version from 3.40 OE-A which I'm using now?

What's the latest now? It's difficult to track now as there seems to be different versions of the firmware floating around rather than the Alex's version since he quit.

I'm only looking to upgrade as the PS3 download of Castlevania SoTN requires 3.50 or later!

I've not tried playing PS1 games via the PSP other than with PS3 downloads yet. What sort of performance are people getting with games on this?

I'm thinking of stuff like GT1, GT2, FFVII, FFIX, Chronno Cross etc. I had the US versions on release and loved all these games. I've sold them all now but I'm really thinking of getting back into them again on the PSP.

Any advice would really be appreciated, feel free to PM if needed!

I'm not sure what firmware I have on mine, 3.10OE-A I think (that's what's on the stick, how do I find out?) but all the PSOne game's I've ripped play fine. GT1 and 2 included (surprisingly well in fact, GT is perfect). There's a Wiki somewhere on which games boot and any technical issues they have (those that boot are, for the most part, perfect). Major disadvantage being the lack of shoulder buttons though.

I've thought about ditching the hacked firmware though for interoperability between PS3 and online play if it weren't for the PSOne functionality. Homebrew emulation is irritating to the extreme when something isn't quite right.

The interoperability with the PS3 works fine if you have hacked 3.51.

Ooooh I didn't know that. Hearsay/paranoia led me to believe otherwise. I'm not sure what I've hacked though as I bought the PSP with the firmware already on it

Is it 3.51 M33 that people are using?

You didn't buy it from GAME did you, mine went trade in yesterday.
Let's hope a Sony rep doesn't have a go on it.

If you are playing PS2 games on it, getting up to date with the firmware is a must, it noticeably improves with each update

Sorry for the continued off topic banter but... Can I still play my own ripped games with official firmware?

And I can play PS2 titles on it? The little handheld beauty never ceases to amaze me!

I'm using 3.52 M33 to play SOTN & various other games I've d/l'd from the PSN Stores.

Just did the upgraded last night from 3.40oe-a and it's very very easy.....wee bit of a hairy moment when it seemed to hang for approx. 20 mins while it was writing a 3.52 file but supposedly this normal with genuine Sony or bootleg sticks. Sandisk sticks are much faster for some reason....

Not played around with it much but i'st resolved the brightness problem with my t-086 PSP and you now get the 4th brightness setting when running emu's etc. off the battery

Feel free to pm me if you need any more info.

n00b question maybe but i have a US release v1.5 PSP. Can I upgrade to a up to date custom firmware and go back down to v1.5 if i ever needed to? I find a lot of the PSP hacking really confusing

                            You can, yeah.

But really, you won't regret installing the 3.52 M33 hacked firmware, there's no disadvantage as such.

                              Yes necro you can.

you can update to for example the latest hacked 3.52 firmware which has a recovery using the R trigger if you really wanted to.

PSP firmware stuff is easy assuming you can read carefully (and knowing how pedantic you can be that should not be a prob)

barring all that bring it round to mine and i'll do it for you.

I haven't tried it but I'm pretty sure you can. However, pretty much all the custom firmware is based on the v1.5 kernel so you'll not lose any functionality by upgrading. If anything you're PSP is more 'desirable' if you ever decide to sell it on.

tbh once you've installed custom firmware there's very little chance you'll want to go back. As with any kind of modification there's always a slim chance of bricking the console....but if you do a bit of reading up beforehand & carefully follow the step-by-step instructions in any installation guide it's pretty straightforward really.
