For those interested, the downgrader now works with the Jap versions of Lumines.

Updated to firmware 3.50 and hoping to pick up a copy of lumines from local indy in the next few days.Just looking for confirmation as to the downgrader,i d/l the easy downgrader zip from pspmod.com and extracted the file.I now have a psp folder in the extracted d/grader and if i am correct i should replace the psp folder on the memory stick with the psp folder from the d/grader.

What emu's are recommended for snes and megadrive and mame if it's now more reliable.

          LOL, I didn't think they'd bother.

That horse has bolted though, methinks.

Thought I'd bump this with the news that a new team has taken over and released a hacked 3.51, more info and download is here http://www.qj.net/PSP-custom-firmwar...g/49/aid/97481

Damn you, I was just making a thread about it. I've installed it and it works fine, even a bit slicker and more n00b friendly on the install than the old OE firmware since it does some of the stuff itself now.

One thing to bear in mind is that I've heard of issues when upgrading from a custom firmware with custom themes, so if you've been messing around with those you might want to go back to the defaults before you install.

Good news, anyway. They were getting worryingly close to games requiring 3.50 and I doubt they're going to have much luck against Russian hackers. The best kind

You might be best to make a new thread, actually thought this thread was much longer as was an 'official' custom firmware thread. Oh well, I was going to leave it, but I can't help but have the latest firmware :P

Finally decided to update to 3.40 OE-A today.

I sold my launch PSP off a while back and had been unsure as to whether it was worth upgrading my UK model to this. I've decided to go down the two PSP way of doing this again.

I'll run my PSP-Fat with the custom stuff and treat myself to a new PSP-Slim at launch for the "proper" games...doing that gives me an excuse to splash out on the newer model lol!!!

Is there any reason for me to upgrade from the 3.4v if I'm not going to be using UMD games on this PSP? What are the advantages of the latest version for somebody who is mainly interested in Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger etc?

It feels like these are never getting a handheld release from Square!!!

There is pretty much no reason to upgrade, I honestly don't know what this firmware added. Might aswell just stay with 3.40 if everything is working fine for you.

Just done it this second so I'll be searching around for stuff to try now.

I feel like I've been away from this for years now so I'm well out lol. I have the PS1 games bought from the PSN on there which I won't be able to run but I'm happy to wait until I get the newer model.

the wipeout pulse promo needs 3.50 and the game is set for a sept release, so that kinda sets the timetable for upgrading if you change you mind about playing UMDs on your phattie. However, the Ukrainians that have taken over DaX's golden mantle have so far released two (minor) patches, so it might be worth waiting a bit.

but FYI: almost all homebrew actually runs under the 1.5FW kernel which effectively 'bootstraps' all OE FWs (OE is basically an emulation of a higher FW under a barebones 1.5FW). Therefore you're unlikely to come across homebrew that needs an upgrade. at least until people make native 1.5+ custom FWs.

                        phew! that was long :-)

I updated mine. Dead simple and seems to work fine.

I've been playing around with emulation now, some of it works well and some of it really doesn't!!

Has anybody here got a GP2X or GP32 which they use for it? How well do these work compared to the PSP?

                              EDIT:
Are we allowed to talk about emulation on this forum?

I have recently being trying emu's myself and find that only daedalus and super mario gave me any trouble.Mostly been using cps2 and mvs emu's and have several arcade games that i usually play on my modded xbox playing with no trouble.
