edit: SNES emulation is overall pretty poor, massive speed issues.
CPS1, CPS2 and NG are superb, truly awesome, make sure you get these.

*Sorry kernow, seems to be agreeing with a lot of your posts, I'm not stalking you

Or am I? No, no I'm not!

In a total suprise, the GBA emulator is amazing.

I've done Zelda:LTTP and Minish Cap complete without problems.

I believe it is called gpSP Kai (I'm using version 0.8).

Masterboy is also great for GBC and SMS - finsished Link's Awakening DX on that, and currently playing Oracle of Seasons.

But agree with the rest, you can't beat the NeoGeo and Capcom emulators. Top Arcade games always worthy of a quick blast (especially with you infinite coins)

Just opened the below thread as I want to try and get info on the best and latest emulators.

          Technical Services/Console Section/PSP Emulator Advice

It may be useful for people just starting up too. If people post which versions they use I'll have a look around to see if I can find the latest versions and any links to advice for those emus.

What firmware are people using now?

I'm up to 3.90 M33 at the moment and was wondering if there had been another unofficial release since then as there has been two official updates I think.

3.90 M33-3 is the newest but im still using 3.80 M33-5 as its perfectly stable and im not sure there is much point in upgrading it yet.

Yeah, 3.90 M33-3 is the latest one.

Dark_Alex only tends to do the work on hacking a new version of the firmware if games start requiring it or if there's a major feature added, neither of which applies to the subsequent official updates. They haven't even stopped remote play working on 3.90, which is something Sony's done with updates before.

If anyone's paying attention, 4.00 M33 is coming this week.

Some exciting features planned, although they might not make it into the initial release:

                  - In-XMB recovery menu access, so no rebooting while holding R to change your settings.
                  - Save state support, so you can save your game at any point in any game and restore it later, like you can with some emulators.

Pretty impressive stuff, and the second feature continues the process of making CFW PSPs more useful as a portable gaming machine than the official updates

Will you be able to update to it from the network update option do you know?

                    Comment

Should be able to, assuming you're currently up-to-date. I'll try it when it's released, though.

I'm at 3.90 m33 I think. Not right up to date, but should be close enough hopefully.

If you needed it update it would just take you a few seconds to get to 3.90 M33-3 over Network Update.

                            Yeah, I'll do that tonight.

Hey everyone, here’s a quick heads up that a new PSP system software update, v4.01, will be released soon. This minor update includes the following: Display of search results under Internet Search has been improved for certain languages. Playback of video content under Video has been improved for certain file types. Look for this update [...]

Fixes 4.0 by the look of it.

How do you update custom firmware's? Same way as the official one?

                              Comment

Since somewhere around 3.7/3.8 they've provided network updates, so you just choose the network update option from the XMB and update as you would officially. Prior to that it was a little more fiddly.
