I wish I could help with the flying 'cos I know exactly what you mean...lol!
I'm trying to hook up my xbox pad as a m8 uses a ps2 pad and says it makes things so much more manageable. I've got some drivers for it so fingers crossed. So only advice I can offer is to try a pad or stick if you can.
Apart from that, great game which just gets better and better once you start using the squad system.
