As I understood it, everyone connecting to FFXI to play is capped at 56k anyway, so broadband just makes your connection to the game more stable. No Pingwhores in Vana'diel

djtickle - there are lots of people on the Seraph server. If you're looking for a worldpass, say so now before you get far into the game .

        January-February Announcements

        The January-February Announcements have arrived!

You can check them out by selecting the "January-February
Announcements" in the Developer's Room, accessible from
the PlayOnline FINAL FANTASY XI top page.

We are currently perfroming tests and making last-minute adjustments to the new areas known as Dynamis. The next version update is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th.

The rules and restrictions for entering this "alternate reality" are as follows:

        Entering Dyanamis

"Trade" a "timeless hourglass" to the "Trail Markings" found in different locations across Vana'diel.
This will transform the item into a "perpetual hourglass."
From that point on, one of the Dynamis areas will be reserved by the bearer of the hourglass.
The destination and time to be spent in Dynamis will be recorded in the item's help text.
Using the perpetual hourglass creates a copy of itself.
By handing these copies out to other characters, it is possible to neter the same Dynamis area in large groups.
Only 64 people may enter the same Dynamis area at one time.
Note that the server will record the first 64 characters that enter the area, and any extra hourglasses will become void after this limit is reached.

Also note that a recipient can further duplicate a perpetual hourglass.
This allows for an essentially unlimited number of houglasses to be made.
Please take this into consideration when deciding to whom, and how many, copies are to be handed out.
Finally, to warp to the designated Dynamis area, "Trade" the perpetual hourglass back to the "Trail Markings" where you originally received it.
However, in addition to the hourglass, players must possess a certain key item in order to teleport to Dynamis.
Obtaining this key item is up to each adventurer.

        Exiting and Returning

Even if a player leaves Dynamis through magic or being KO'd, they can reenter the same area without restriction--as long as it is within the designated time of the perpetual hourglass.
However, the player will be in a weakened state for some time upon returning to the area.

This weakened state will last for longer than the usual period experienced after being raised from KO status.
Upon entering Dynamis, you will be unable to reenter using a different perpetual hourglass for three days (Earth time).
This restriction applies to all Dynamis areas during this period.
You may check the amount of time remaining on this restriction at any time by investigating the "Trail Markings."

        Battles in Dynamis

In Dyanamis, you can cooperate with other character to defeat enemies without being in the same party or alliance.
Also, items dropped by enemies become available for every character in the area to cast lots on. As in normal parties, the character that casts the highest lot will acquire the item.
Please be aware that the items not lotted for within the restricted time will go to random characters or be lost entirely.
Starting from when the first character enter, if the number of people in an area of Dynamis reaches and remains at zero for approximately 10 minutes (Earth time), the time and area designation on the perpetual hourglass will be canceled.

The rules and restrictions listed above are subject to change without prior notice.
For further detalis on Dynamis, please refer to the version update information released on the 24th.

**Due to the addition of these new features, the help text of all furnishings will change to reflect the number of storage slots, elemental status, etc.

        [System-Related]
*new additions to the "Config" menu will allow players to adjust mouse and camera settings. Some of these addtions include the implementation of a "chase camera" which locks directly behind your character at all times, as well as the option to invert the X and Y axis on the camera controls.
*Players will now be able to alphabetically sort items on auction (excluding weapons and armor).
*Also, the method of sorting will be saved for future usage.

        [Windows Version Updates]
*A new setting will be added allowing the adjustment of shadow detail between "High," "Normal," and "Off."

There are several other changes that will be announced at the time of the update.

The Battles sound ace, but it likely to be 70+ only, i'd love to see 64 players having at monstor in one huge battle. Also relics? and furnishings finally have use.

And a new summon, Bahamut(Dragon), Hades(Dark) or Alexander(light)? I guess the dragoon's would be put to shame if Bahamut shows up

Finally succumbed to temptation and picked up FFXI today I've tried the recreating character process to get on to Seraph but havent had any luck at all.

Would love to join you all if there is still room I'm a little confused with how the world pass thing works though.

Someone already on seraph will purchase a world pass from various NPC's around the world, this world pass gives you a code or number or something. then when you create your character, on the same screen as you put in your name is a box for world pass which you enter the code into. That'll get your character on the same server

After 2 weeks at being stuck at lvl25 made good progress over the weekend and am now a lvl28 THF.

That Ninja job is within reach

Nice one. I didn't get much play done this weekend (though I had lots planned) Shopping saturday afternoon. Valentine's dinner saturday evening. Pub lunch sunday and I had a War with my Soldier of Fortune II-clan (we won 3-1 ) after that I watched the Bafta's.

Hope to get some more levels in this week. Beast master has been good fun sofar, I feel i'll need some more practise to get used to the whole thing though, it's very very different from the other jobs I've had, controlling a pet and using it to optimum capacity is harder than I expected. I also tend to get myself killed rather a lot...

Thing is I have everything planned out for once I gain these next 2 levels. I reckon if I get a good party quickly this evening when I get home, lvl29 is a distinct possibility. Once I do get 30 I 'think' I know who I need to speak with to get the Ninja quest (if I'm wrong I'll be /shouting all over Jeuno for help ) then once I've unlocked the job I'm going to go to Bastok, get a Rent-a-Room, and change jobs and do my levelling in Bastok.

Decided that i didn't want to level at San Doria again, so will do it from a Bastokian perspective to keep things fresh. Bastok has a Blacksmiths Guild (which I am now level 3 at) so it will be just like home

Still not quite reached level 29. I was about 80exp off when I finished on Monday but I realised last night that my Dagger Skill level is seriously lacking (my Hand-to-hand and Sword skills are capped and don't increase that much per level so decided to focus on the Dagger for a bit (being the Thief's weapon an' all). Unfortunately I had no Dagger on me meaning a Death Warp was in order.

Browsing the AH, I found a nice looking Archer's Knife listed but none available at Kazham. (The Archer's Knife has a base damage of 11, AGI+1 and increases Ranged Accuracy +10 - seemed perfectly suited to a THF's strengths plus last couple of parties I have been the puller so actually having my Flame Boomerang hit for damage would be a bonus ). However, spent all online time riding to each of the towns looking for a place that had one available at AH. Eventually found one back in Jeuno after all the travelling. I am now back in Yhoator ready for a group to put my new Dagger to use

Just found this thread over at FFVault

Going to have a go at this myself tonight. GOt a nicely specced PC so should be able to get the game looking even more lush

Also, whilst browsing several other FF11 forums, I've seen mention of Config settings to turn on Anti-Aliasing and Particle Effects. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting the messages but I've never seen this options in the config settings on my machine. Anyone have any idea?

                              Hi All

I'm back online with ffxi after a 6 month sabatical due to lack of decent internet access. I've also transfered from playing the Japanese version to the NA version and I'm loving the fact that the unfinished quests that I didn't understand are carried across and are now in English!

Now I've got a bit of a dilema. My character is on Ragnarok Server and Is a L23 WAR/ L11 THF from Bastok. My old linkshell has disbanded and the former members seem to have either dropped out or turned into american hating lunatics. I'd love to play with similar minded NTSC-UK players but don't know If I can say goodbye to my old character.

So I'd like some info on what kind of server / area / level you are all on.
I think starting again in a new area would be acceptable because I could try new quests /missions for say Windrust on San and of course everything would be partially new because It would all be in English.

I do have reservations about trying a new server though. Since playing again over the last week I've become alarmed by the number of random english speaking players shouting for help and looking for people to help them with key quests etc. I don't know if this is acceptable behaviour and I don't think It happened b4 the NA version was released. I've also heard horror stories of rude english speaking players getting fellow PT members killed and constantly endangering themselves and sending /help's left right and center.

Basically I need some positve feedback to make the switch to another server.

                              Thanks

                              Tim

Thanks Aegen. It worked for me

I deleted Nom from the ... erm... Fairy server and have started afresh with Nomu (Hume Monk) on Seraph.

Hopefully I'll see some of you around soon.
