Just got off the phone with SE tech support. I was frusterated that I couldn't log into the game. The tech told me that about an hour ago a router in Japan affecting the United States just experienced some issues. I thought i would pass on the information.

I got the fast cooking level guide off a post on th ellakhazam forums. I'm at home at the moment and I think I've got it bookmarked at work. I'll look it up when ?'m at work and post it here.

The rough outline is: farm about a dozen stacks of fire crystals and farm a dozen stacks of wind crystals. That's the hard part. Go to Sandy, the old lady near the gate to westronfaure in southsan sells carrots. use 4 carrots and a water crystal to make carrot broth. Make carrot broth until you get lv 3 cooking. Then you're off to windy for the rest of the levelling. Start with buying Bastore Sardines (from the fishing guild) and slice them with wind crystals - do that up about level 10 (this is nigh 100% succes with advanced synthesis support from the cooking guild)

After level 10 start making selbina butter, save up the butter until lv 13 then use the butter to make baked potatoes. use that combination of synthesese to go from 13-20.
then you make dog biscuits (pet food gamma) up to level 24. at that point you switch to pineapple juice (you make a small loss making that) the juice will put you up to about lv 28 - then you switch to fish broth or pet food delta, which will take you well into the thirties - Mithkabob level.

I just upgraded my PC so it's now fast enough to run FFXI. Is it worth getting this game now, or am I too late? Are there any other n00bs out there or is the place packed with high level players?

If there is anyone from ntsc-uk who just started/is about to start FFXI let me know.

I'd say it's worth it, there always seem to be new players. Also, because each character can level all the different jobs seperately theres always people atlow level to play with.

We have a nice NTSC-community going on the Seraph server (for which we can provide you with a worldpass) so let us know what you decide.

I'm not sure that's completely true, Chief. Your record number of deaths aside, I don't think you are lowest in terms of exp.

Making progress, we are, yes. Got our subs to Lv 20 last night; can't remember the last time I fought for so long with an uncapped skill - GreatAxe.
I also levelled cooking to 27, I'll have to buy some more pineapples so I can level it towards thirty this evening.
Just a few more levels and I'll be crafting you all Mithkabobs at cost.
