I'd say its very dependant on build and I don't know Dark very well. I'd suggest the man you want to ask is Rabs, in my experience though I've generally seen DRKs using Haubies until the Hauberk becomes available to them.
Personal choice for me is to build accuracy and str into gear and use food to raise attack.

I think the BCNM60s will take lot of time and effort, at least the times I've done other level orb battles people are usually burnt out after them.. not to mention it could end up being quite late and there are people on the bowyer ring who aren't doing the BCNM and they would have to wait for us.

Don't know where that leaves us, but we need it done. It's been getting bandied about for what seems like months now with no progress, if it's not done by Sunday it'll be another 2 weeks.. that's another 2 weeks wait before I can face Maat with semi-decent gear.. i.e. 2 weeks I can't afford.
edit - i'd suggest we go with the first group of 6 people who are at the right stage of the quest
If your gear is holding you back from fighting maat, don't worry about it. If I can beat him with basic items, you should have no problem. The main thing you need to worry about is making sure that your elemental and enfeebling magic are both capped. You could even go in there naked and probably still win - if he pulls firaga III out of the bag though, your timing will need to be precise in getting off those spells/abilities.
Apparently it used to be possible to avoid firaga III using a blink band making the fight MUCH easier. Since the update which nerfed shadows however, that's no longer possible as area attacks such as GA spells will completely ignore them, as I'm sure you're aware.

That has always been the case though. Back in 2004 (before the AOE changes to shadows) a Ga spell would always remove all shadows and deal damage exactly as they do now.
Also, Blink Bands (and all other Enchanted Items) were added after this change so I don't know where you've read this information but I'd dismis it completely if I was you.

Apa told me not long back that once you use the first teleporter in sky you can't get back out without warp. Last week i found a teleporter that sends you back to start allowing you to re-enter the Hall of the Gods.
Also Apa also did his Maat fight after the AOE blink change. I? think he was yanking your chain
