Holy ****!! My Sega SKC-1000 Karaoke / Sega Saturn system is here!!!!!! and best of all it still has a hard drive full of music and data including the weather forecast for Tokyo 22nd February 1998! It also has an advertisement for the Dreamcast Sega karaoke system! How F*ing cool is that?!
OK, on to the pictures. First, idiot EBay sellers take note. this is how you pack expensive heavy equipment
No.1 A big heavy box.
No.2 Lots of good packing on top, below and around the sides of the item.
No.3 Use plenty of bubble wrap. not just a little farty piece.
Now on to the actual hardware which is very heavy.
The Saturn discs go in to a high end CD drive which is very nice with the controller slots in behind the 2nd flap. Also behind that flap are audio tweaking knobs just like on the Wondermega. however these on this system will make your Saturn sound like you never would have believed. Separate bass and treble controls really make things sound amazing and so rich.
Around the back of the system are more inputs and outputs than you could ever want. There's also separate outputs for Video CD. Could this be a resolution thing? Either way the actual karaoke menus (powered by the Saturn by the looks of things) are beautiful via RGB or S-Video. The Saturn it's self also looks very nice through S-video although I've not tried it through RGB yet.
I was also sent the CD multi changer as well but I don't have the cables to connect the two and I don't have the key to open it. There are CDs in side the system and it is very very heavy so maybe there are actually 50 discs in there. I will sell this though since I have no use for it.
I'll be taking a closer look at the system on the next Retro Core so keep an eye open for that one.

Revisited my Game Boy today, you may remember seeing a photo of it with a backlight?
Well the other day I read about a "bivert" mod, where you invert the image which makes it sharper, then invert it again when fitting the backlight kit. So I pop it open again and install the necessary and the screen is amazing:
In the photo it looks to bright down the bottom of the screen, but in the flesh it looks so much better. And it's got a cool blue edge around the screen now
Here's the bivert mod - http://mikejmoffitt.com/tut/tut_dmg_bivert.html and this is the backlight kit http://www.nonelectronics.com/catalo...39db61fc775020

Yakumo, you going to treat us to a video of yourself singing on that karaoke machine?
That Gameboy looks great! Do you have the original Mario for it? I wonder how much better it looks on that? Was a blurry mess of black and green when you ran fast!
Some more recent retro finds over the past week.
Going to have to find myself one of those FC Twin clones to play this next lot
I lost track of what was arriving and ended up with two copies of GX and a freeloader, after I realised GC PAL games won't display in progressive but before I discovered that my cube plays all regions!
Waverace in 50hz is horrible so had to get 60hz versions. I had to import Alex Kidd, I couldn't find a boxed copy and always wanted to play it ever since a friend had the MS but I've nothing to play it on yet until next week when a MS convertor arrives.
SF2 and Dracula were from a car boot sale that this morning, 50 pence each! Was immediately offered ?1 for the SF2 cart from another browser.
Shining Wisdom
Fear Effect - Always liked the premise but wow, the controls are horrible! Pushing up on the dpad to move forward is why I never got into the Resi games initially. Why doesn't this support analogue controls?
I'm not sure whether to keep the MD purchasing up, and playing Quackshot made me realise why., I hate the controller! It's the 3 button layout! Everything bar this and the Saturn pad has a standard array of 4 face buttons and my thumb isn't used to moving further to the right. I don't have this problem with the Saturn pad because it's much smaller.
Can you get sfc/snes convertors to use those pads on a megadrive?
More retro goodness next week!Last edited by Mr-Niceguy2001; 17-09-2011, 18:21.
