Well, its been threatening to happen and now it has. I'm restarting my Dreamcast collection. Getting rid of my previous one a few years ago has been a persistant and bitter source of regret for me and I've decided that now is the time to build it back up and beyond what it was before. This is my starting point. The accessories are all new and the games are either new or mint (having had the cases replaced too). Looking forward to trying the '3 in 1' adapter out with a Saturn controller too, save having to try and unearth one of those Ascii fight controllers.

Some of the highlights coming up in the next week or so include the PAL Samba de Amigo boxset, Rez, a brand new unopened PAL console and plenty more games. I've also found a nice Sony Trinitron 21" 4:3 CRT, which for my tastes is the best display to play DC games on (never really got on with the VGA, a little too clean and sharp for my liking). Anyway, I'll post pics as the come in.

Since falling back in to retro (AGAIN) i've been struggling not to buy another DC. It was all the fault of JSR coming to PS3/360, then not turning out to be as good as the original. Nice start, please tell me there's no more of those new systems available...........

I wonder how many times that has been said by how many different retro gamers

I just couldn't resist any longer. I think the DC is a very friendly console to collect for as there is plenty of availability, a lot of stuff can still be got hold of new or close to new and the prices aren't ridiculous. For hardware fetishists, it is a glorious console

Ref the new console, it's (or was) the only one I know of doing the rounds at the moment, but I saw another one on Ebay two weeks ago. So they are still floating about, just have to keep the eyes peeled.

But it doesn't have all the original music, therefore it won't be as good!

Were you not dissing her for making assumptions about games she had not played? :P I'm only kidding dude.

Ha! It's not the same thing bud. I've played the original JSR to death, so that's the version that I like, any changes would make it feel wrong. It's like in the 'what film have you watched most' thread. Mine is animal house, which as a youngster I watched hundreds of times on VHS, years later when I bought it on DVD, it was a different region release with an alternate soundtrack, it ruined the film for me as it was playing the wrong songs in certain scenes, so I had to hunt down what to me was the 'proper' version. Yaseewatamean?

Much like when trying to stay away from retro in general, I tried out emulation and ports of certain games, nothing matches the originals though. So here I go again on my own, goin' down the only road i've ever known..............

I totally get it. I've been having a similar thing with Crazy Taxi on the Xbox 360. It plays the same etc, but it's not Crazy Taxi without the proper soundtrack and blatant advertising. I know why they did it, but it doesn't make it okay.

Ha! I've been referenced <3 I feel like a Celeb...

I actually have Japanese versions of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio for Dreamcast. They're amazing as they are (Music, shameless KFC, Pizza Hut reference) anything other than a 100% straight port is sacrilegious. They're like Da Vinci paintings... You can send them to a restorer to clean them up a bit (put them in 1080p and redo some textures and edges so it looks clean) but you don't doodle a pair of Beats by Dre headphones onto the Mona Lisa...

At a mere tenner this has to be my favourite buy of the year. Didn't expect it as the game itself is the only one I struggle to enjoy in the series, but this soundtrack is making me forget about my Saga and Orta cds. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Only Zwei left to go now...
