Worth mentioning, as I've pretty much owned all Saturn variations at some point (bar the Hi-Navi) and of all, the Hi-Saturn seems the most reliable, and has ever-such slightly better VCD picture quality. Although have put a Hi-VCD card in my Derby Saturn and have yet to check out the picture.

Also Dist. Cousin all Jap/US machines look slightly 'brighter' than the UK machines, this is due to the number of lines displayed.

The second edition models (round buttons) are easier to mod for 50/60hz switches. The first gen. ones can be done, just have to figure out yourself (it's not too hard just varying voltages) as not so many guides about on the net.

Whatever saturn you get, the machines are a class act!

Yeah, it's an extended version of the video they gave away with UK Saturns in glorious Cinepack video.

WTF is with that? whats with that prat prancing around a TV? i just wanted to punch the c**t, and whats with the 'scary' face saying 'sega saturn' and my favourite 'Mwahahahah' in between clips? Infact what the hell was the person who made that advert thinking? was he/she on some very bad acid trip, who in God's name thought that promotion would make people think "hey you know what i want a sega saturn because i want to be in the 21st century and leave everyone else behind", and a half naked body builder holding up the console - where the **** did that come from? Just, just....why?...WHY?

What were they smoking when they made that? No wonder everyone bought a Playstation instead.

The Sega Saturn is more appreciated now than it ever was back then, definitely.

Twats in hats where very popular in 1995, along with guys with very wispy beards like the Spin Doctors, games on consoles that weren't ports of first person PC shooters, that kinda thing...

That ad wasn't that bad and at least it showed games running (even if a few of the clips were using Model 1 , 2 videos) . By far the worst gaming ad was Nintendo UK 1st run of ads for the Snes, or the DC. My god they were so bad it was laughable

Yeah, you could be right. I just think that the ad was too surreal and the "cool" factor was totally absent, beardy bloke in a tutu /= cool.

EDIT: Come to think of it, it wasn't as bad as those insane "The Third Place" PS2 ads either.

Went into town to pick up my modded Saturn at G-Force in Glasgow. Turns out their resident tech-wizard forgot to order a double-throw switch, meaning a two-day delay. Perfectly acceptable, but it meant a fiver wasted on a train ticket to Glasgow in 30 degrees plus weather.

It'll be worth it, though. If only to be able to play my Capcom vs collection without any of that horrible reverb.

Oh, I know. I've had a Saturn since I was eight. I've only been forced to rebuild my collection because my mum sold my original set when I left for university.

                              We don't talk much anymore.

As for shooters, I've already picked up (again and for considerably more money this time 'round) my old favourites: Radiant Silvergun, Layer Section and DoDonpachi. Classics all.
