    Everybody's Super Sonic Racing!

Well, I cranked up the Saturn and had a go at a few titles last night.

Fuunsaiki - twas OK, but I'm not the biggest 2D fighter fan really. Got reasonably far on the normal mode with your average button mashing, and pulled off a few crazy moves. Then got bored.

Shadows of the Tusk - had a brief tussle with this one, but couldn't really work out what to do and couldn't be bothered to look up the FAQ to work it all out. When I want quality turn based action, I'll download Laser Quest from Underdogs ...

Choaniki - strangely enough, this one was actually quite fun! Definitely one of the most surreal gaming experiences I have had, and therefore ranks highly in my book! Right up there with Pu Li Ru La for downright strangeness.

Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru - well, I've had a whirl on it before and didn't rate it too highly. This time round I found it a bit better, largely due to figuring out how to actually use the mind control thing, and the sheild thing - both of which are fairly essential. After that, I did enjoy it a lot more. It's hard to appreciate the lush graphics when you're cursing the frustration of constantly dying.

But even so, the gameplay quickly gets very samey, I found - but it really does have some sublime moments, what with everything rotating round you as you turn a corner and giant frog monsters and the like. Top marks on that front - but I'm afraid the gameplay, although it has some original concepts, leaves a lot to be desired.

Tonight I popped in Duke Nukem 3D and played a few hours of Death Tank Zwei with a friend ... more fun than all of them put together! The game is sheer genius!

wtf? obviously i don't believe them for a second but what on earth could they have been doing exactly? both mates have the kof95 rom, the 1m ram AND the 4m ram and they can in fact tell the difference between these three
KoF 95 and Ultraman are the only two that have portion of the code stored on the ROM cart for quick access... as you can suspect those two games won't work without their ROM cart since the disc will call the data off ROM cart...

You know they could've done something fantastic with ROM cart if they wanted but cheap Sega US didn't want any of it and ROM cart idea quickly fell through...

Does anyone know why this game won't load most of the time? Everyone's discs are fine so why doesn't it always load? Were all the discs pressed wrong or something? All I know that it's a right bastard to get working. Tonight I'm 100% going to make an ISO copy and try to boot that with the disc swap method to see if it works. If it does then maybe the rest of you with the original Japanese version should do the same. by the way, I run mine on a 1st gen gray Saturn and Hi-Staturn, both with the same problem.

A few people have mentioned this but to be honest EVERY Saturn Bio Hazard I've sold is uncut. I have 3 at home now all with the same code number. Does anyone know the code numbers for the cut version?

I'd think edited JPN copy would be very rare - if such thing exist...

Maybe he meant as opposed to the Pal/US releases which might have been cut? Or just he didn't know the jp ss release was uncut as some releases say psx might be?? If there is another cat # it'll be on Kinsukejp (sp) list

                exactly what Adrian said

when the PS1 version came out originally it was uncut and then they released a directors cut which totally ruined the intro

so finding an uncut version on the PS1 these days is quite rare especially amongst the pal sector

so it was nice to see that the saturn version wasnt 'the directors cut', i thought it was so it was a nice little bonus to see dogs heads get splatted everywhere and the stars member eaten oh and the notorious head chomping off bit

Yeah its great and so much better to the Pal version.
Funny I remember SEGA Europe saying that the Pal version was going to be un-cut only to yet again break another Saturn promise (like both Clockwork Nights were going to be onthe same disc ect). Best part is they even showed the Head chomping bit inthe official and unrated Saturn demo disc.

GOD SEGA Europe were sh8t back inthose days

That the whole point of Ranking mode when you unlock it, I can get about half through the game on one life and still get the worse rank.

All I?ll say about the final boss is, it is one crazy monster.

Hats off you mate. I can get to that Fog part with out too much loss of life, the moment you go inside that f-ing Frog, all hell breaks lose.
Great game thought, up there with RSG as what the Saturn can do when used right

The pal ps1 resident evil was in fact always censored, prior to the pal directors cut version being released, it was promised that the uncencored intro would be put back in. They didnt. The only ps1 version with an uncut intro is the original jpn biohazard. Cant comment on the saturn game tho.

Sometimes I have to remember that my gaming skills are better than what I give them credit for. Only tip I have for Taromaru is the game is easier in two players.

The unrated Saturn demo disc for Resident Evil was a laugh. You couldn't buy the edited game unless over 15 but you could watch the removed head rolling scene with all the family, free with Sega Saturn Mag.

Also I was surprised that Enemy Zero, Deep Fear and Last Bronx were never rated.
About the 1MB and 4MB, most SNK games don't work well with the 4MB even the one's that say they do KOF97 has longer loading times with the 4MB. Word of warning with KOF97 if you swap between using the 1MB and 4MB it will erase your save file.

Oh and with Cyberbots and Marvel Super Heroes you only get the extra animation if you use the 1MB you don't get it if you use the 4MB. With the 4MB the option appears in the menu but you don't get the extra animation to see if it's working crouch with Spiderman, his breathing animation when crouched only appears with the 1MB inserted.

I know I say this all the time, but people really should just use the Action Replay Plus 4M Auto instead of the official RAM carts, and save themselves all the hassle of compatibility problems between the carts.

As for Resi, well Capcom produced the PAL version even if SoE published it. I blame them, personally.

Nah, the FMV on Saturn Bio Harazrd is good but nothing near the best. Maria (uses True Motion) has almost Dreamcast quality FMV !! I was shocked when I saw this. Also Tengai Makyou: Daishi no Mokushiroku The Apocalypse IV by Hudson has some Very impressive full screen cinipac FMV that really looks like MPEG ! Not all the FMV in the game is of super high quality but at least more than half is. Actually, you can get some pretty nice results with Cinipac if you encode it right. Just goes to show that many Saturn programers didn't really know how to use FMV on the machine. Gun Griffon also looks very smart. Yet another game that uses True Motion. The thing with Gun Griffon however is that if you have a MPEG Card then you will get a MPEG version of the movie which looks very nice I always wondered why Sega's in-house games always had **** True Motion video quality when others did much better.
