Yeah I agree The MD didn't really have better shooter's in my eye's, just probably more shooter's. (Super aleste is also amazing on the snes I think)

I think The MD had better side scrolling beatem up's though in the street's of rage series.

It's hard to say actually as the MD has good shooter's also!- but yeah I think your right that most MD head's usually go a bit overboard when boasting about the shooter's it had compared to snes.

S'up to you mate, id think there's a lot of scope there few a good old argument/discussion. I prefer the megadrive for shooters myself, although id rate Area 88 as my favorite shooter ever.

I forgot about Super Aleste, and it's one of my faves as well! Put it down to early morning....
As for the scrolling beat em ups, I would agree that Streets of Rage 2 is the finest example ever, but I think the Snes has more examples of good scrolling fighters overall. It's pretty close though.
        Megadrive:
        Streets of Rage 1,2,3
        Golden Axe 1,2,3
        Two Crude Dudes
        Double Dragon, DD3
        Punisher

        Snes:
        Final Fight 1,2,3
        Rushing Beat 1,2,3
        Knights of The Round
        King Of The Dragons
        Captain Commando
        Undercover Cop
        Super Double Dragon

Another good MD beat-em up is splatterhouse 2. I've heard people saying they didn't like it but I actually prefer it to the original.

Would you class the shinobi's as scrolling beatem up's?

I'm sorry but PC Engine MDKs the pair of them put together for both shooters and fighters.
            Kept you waiting, huh?

Shinobi I would say is more a platform game, in the same way that ghouls 'n' ghosts, and super castlevania is.
I love splatterhouse 2. I downloaded the PC Engine version of the first one, and for my money the 2nd is a far better game. I recall playing the third one on the megadrive once, and it seemed good, but I didn't have a long go on it.

What scrolling beat em ups would you reccomend on the pc engine? I don't own one but have been buying stuff on the virtual console. I see there is one that looks like final fight.
I didn't think the pc engine had that many scrolling fighters apart from splatterhouse and that one on the virtual console.

                *edit* Riotzone

Why, the most excellent Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari.

Dynasty Warriors? Rubbish. That came out on the SNES as well. The sequel is ace, got that on the PS1.

I'm sorry , I rate the Snes more than the Mega Drive . But when it came to shooters , scrolling fighters and more sport games , the MD kicked the Snes in Touch , so much so its not even up for debate .

Thunder Force IV, SOR II, NHL Hockey = SNES owned :P.

The MD was better for driving games (Super Hang On, Monaco GP, Road Rash), an often forgotten genre i imagine as it relys so much on graphics. In fact Nintendo consoles are always ****e for driving games, you get Mario Kart or F-Zero, thats your lot. Theres nothing wrong with those games, they are great, but they aren't Monaco GP, Gran Turismo, Forza etc.
