Classic SNES season - anyone joining me?

So for those of you who, like me, don't give a **** about any new releases, I'm proposing a classic SNES season of orgasmic gaming purity. Over the coming weeks (I'm on easter break from uni) I shall be exploring all the golden oldies I can think of. I'm going to be sitting on my bed in the dim light of the evening with the crickets outside, and a super famicom controller in my hands. It's gonna be great. I think I'll start off tonight with Super Metroid, so I can get into things quickly, as it's quite short. Then I will go for an rpg I think, something light, like Link to the Past or Mario RPG. Then, who knows? Starfox, Super Mario Kart, Castlevania 4? Anyone fancy coming along for the ride of a lifetime? Forget about your Gears of F.E.A.R 7 and your Resident Duty 5: Homecoming. Throw away your Grand Theft Hatsworth Fighter IV and your Guitar Band 13: Quantum of Bollocks. Pick up that dogbone controller once again, for old times sake!

SMW is truly timeless. It is the Citizen Kane of gaming. I've tried several times to get into Yoshi's Island, but it doesn't have the same allure to me. I may give it another go this time, as I have a Japanese guidebook now, and I do love the art style a great deal.

Count me in Sorrel! Just got a few SNES games today.
First play today is Toy Story, I want to see the differences between the high selling Megadrive one and the poor selling SNES one!
Next stop, more Whirlo continuing where I last left off!

Oh and ive also been playing the Starwing Competition Cartridge alot too, I can only really get onto the third level with 5 seconds left I obviously wouldnt have won the competition!

I might be up for it, I haven't played my snes in a while despite it being connected to a CRT for a long time. I always seem to pop in SMW in the end anyway, I might as well glue it in there.

Oh, forgot to say. Recently found out that the GB version of Space Invaders actually has the Super Nintendo Space Invaders hidden away on it. No lie!

Put Space Invaders into the Super Gameboy and it will ask you if you want to Play the Super Gameboy Version or the 'Arcade' version. Select Arcade and youre off!

You are officially my "Best Friend"

I play snes games every week. It's the best console ever made - and it keeps on giving and giving( like a Magic Lantern with infinite wishes )

The other day I was playing Star Fox. I had a feeling that it would look extremely dated and play poorly, but.. I was very surprised to find it to be just as exciting as it was back in '93. A fantastic game in every department.

What shall I play next? ... I think I'll go for Pilotwings. Yes.. a classic game, that isn't rare, but.. I'm not someone who bangs on about obscure games that really aren't as great as collectors make them out to be. No.. I like the games that have always been great.

noobish, let me know what you're playing, and plan to play?

ContraIII never fails to blow my mind. Such a satisfying run-'n-gun experience. In fact... I'd say it's the best game in its genre. I was playing it a few weeks back - and it's always a feel-good experience. The music is sooo extremely brilliant.

I think tonight is definitely the night for some Super Metroid. I'm gonna turn the lights off and have the volume turned up, as was suggested in Super Play, I believe. One of my all time favourite games. If SMW is Citizen Kane, then Super Metroid must surely be... a very good.. film...aswell. I've just got to make sure I don't get sidetracked into playing the serieseses instead of SNES games. If I play Super Metroid, I'm sure to want to play the NES original next, and if I play Link to the Past, I'm sure to want to play Link's Awakening and so on. I've gotta stay focused! This is serious business.

ARGH! GODDAMN! I forgot the super famicom controller cable is three feet long! Jesus Christ! This is seriously annoying. Bloody cheapass japs, it was the same with the PC engine. That's it! SNES season is off!

that's odd as I remember the (UK) SNES having ridiculously long cables, must have been about 3m

Oh man the SNES was the best and Zelda 3 is my favourite game ever

Other than what's been mentioned F Zero and Castlevania 4 must be worth some time if you are planning some marathon sessions.

Yep.. the Famicom is also incredibly short. And the AV Famicom is really short too, probably half the length of the toploader NES.

Surely you can just buy a UK SNES controller?

Yep.. 3ft long, because the Japanese usually have small rooms. I use American controllers with pretty long cables. Just go and buy a few UK joypads - which are the same as Japanese ones; except much longer cables.

Don't give up on the snes.
