Nah I reckon Nintendo and Sega stuff is still way more popular man. PCE is a foreign concept to most under the age of about 45 I reckon, and it was never as big in the US as it was in the UK and Europe (even though they got a proper release of it). Hardly any of the franchises from the machine are still going concerns today, either, unlike the SNES, MD and even NeoGeo.

There's still a ton of love for it out there, obviously, like you say, but a quick look at a large retro community like r/retrogaming shows there's comparatively little discussion of stuff like Soldier Blade or even Bonk versus classic Nintendo stuff.

I think it's cool that Analogue made the machine knowing the addressable market must be that much smaller, though.

I never said Nintendo & Sega stuff weren't more popular. Commercially, there's no doubt about that.

But I stand by what I did actually say: PCE/TG-16 stuff is still significant, especially in North America (hence why an American company like Analogue made the Duo), and it's still significant for being a grey import classic.

OG hardware and software on the resell market for it isn't at all cheap today. I'm literally saying that as somebody who is under the age of 45!

Fair enough, thought you were say you thought it wasn't less popular but obvs got the wrong end of the stick. It's def significant for sure.

I can only imagine that PCE software has become that expensive or other emulation solutions for it are that cheaper/more convenient.
Wasn't their first machine old MVS boards in a flashy wooden case?

Yes. Analogue were one of the first to consolize the MVS. A gorgeous-looking machine.

It definitely didn't bomb. Analogue didn't make many of them, despite there being demand. It was a limited release machine.

Yeah, wish I'd bought one at the time but they were all gone before I even knew about it. So now I have MVS carts in my bookcase with nothing to play them on!

They looked great from the exterior but I remember reading the whole thing was just hot glued together lol, jankily at that.

A great way of raising money for what they really wanted to build though, probably.

I can confirm that. Looks lovely outside but when I was looking to install a newer UniBIOS I opened it up then just shut it again. I'd need to have snipped a lot of the wires to open it far enough to do any work inside.

Ah interesting. That’s cool that you have one though.

The 8bitdo 64 controllers are available to pre-order now on US Amazon. Doesn't look like you can buy them direct from 8bitdo, at least not at present.

                        Analogue 3D delayed until July.

Fair credit to Analogue, their version of the N64 looks beautiful, particularly with GoldenEye 64 plugged in. It just looks right.

Don't think I'm going to get this though. Looks amazing and I do love the N64, but emulation options beat FPGA, for my own personal needs at present. When the MiSTer gets to a real stage of maturity and ubiquity though, I'll be all over that as a multi console system.

Unless of course, I just become weak and think about Perfect Dark and Wave Race 64 plugged into that thing, then I'll crumble!

The MiSTer has had basically full compatibility with the N64 library as of about 6 months ago and it does analog video out too. What it cannot do is natively output 4K though, which is where the Analogue 3D has the edge. Plus being able to use your library of carts off the bat. Plus the hardware doesn't look like a bomb.
