You can't really put much faith in a 'review' that consists of ragging a car around a track can you? They barely mention what the cars are like on the road. Plus a lot of the factual information they give is wrong or misleading. Not that there are any better alternatives on tv.

    Still entertaining though.

the ragging cars round the track seems to me to be a product of the actual presenters being more popular and having less time to devote to the prog. far easier to do burnouts for an afternoon than take a few days actually driving/filming.

the alfa thing was passable last night but I can't shake my feeling this is on the downward slope now. I feel i've seen it all before.

I think they're getting worse at the execution of the script. For example, the whole Jeremy's rolled his Alfa bit was terrible. I can't even think for a second that even a totally naive 10 year old that's never watched TV before in their life would have thought that he actually crashed and rolled there. The edit from the footage shot of him skidding was terrible.

As for the calendars, why have that bit at all? They clearly knew it was rubbish so why bother leaving it in?

Overall I enjoyed the ep though, took some advice and recorded it so I could forward through SIARPC though this week, much better.

Liked that black Alfa, I want one!

My dad used to have a silver 75 and has had a 33 and a couple of Alfasuds. Awesome cars

I'm really bored of the show now and seem to miss many of them due to just being bothered about it.

It's sad but the only time I feel the need to watch it is they or doing a special or if it innvolves Hammond crashing, rolling over, exploding or just damaging himself in some way in a car.

I think Jeremy has gone from being an annoying knob who was funny to watch to being an annoying knob who who just isn't worth the effort of watching and seems to believes that it's his show. He just seems completely stale in it now like he's putting so much effort into trying to be Jeremy Clarkson rather than it happening naturally.

I think the whole show really needs to just start again from the producers down and possibly forget about the three presenters that are on it now.

be interesting to see what the Aussies, and to a far lesser degree the yanks come up with in their versions. suspect they won't find any new angles and will just copy what's been done already.

not saying its easy, 5th Gear for example hasn't added much to the genre.

Fifth Gear suffers badly in the editing, some scenes go on for far too long just to pad out the show.

Top Gear however suffers from poor scripting. I watched last night's episodes laughing at some bits and genuinely embarressed by others - the calendars and 'crash' of the AR 75 being the particular low points as others have mentioned.

But it didn't used to be this scripted. The best bits are still the spontaneous pats and it's so obvious which bits those are.

So then, these pictures Jeremy keeps finding on the internet....

yeah, its really hard to find grot on the net is it ?

what surprises me is the hypocritical nature of the audience who are pulling 'oh no' faces like they've never seen anything like it before.

dunno whats annoying me more now, this prog or talking about it here when I'm basically reminded now of why I can't stand most of it.

Guess it's the one a lot of people have been waiting for (myself included!) this week...
                      Nissan GT-R vs Bullet Train!

Apparently it takes up half the show n' all

Excellent. Looks a phenomenal car, should be good.

Ooh, the Alfa 8c is also on. A car so gorgeous I do a little sex wee in my pants everytime I see it. Should be a good ep.

I cant wait for the bullet train to trounce the GT-R. Of course being TG, that won't happen but in reality Jezza hasn't got a hope in hell. I wonder what rules they will cook up to skew it in Jezza favour. Should be great stuff though.

In regards to TG in general, the stars in the...blah blah is pointless and a waste of time but if the dumped it, they would have to replace it with more reviews (not a bad thing) and that could be expensive in terms of production, etc.

Yes, the show is scripted but its also the funniest thing on TV. Long may it live..

Pretty much. When a show can 'prove' that a BMW is more fuel efficient than a Prius, you're not exactly watching it for balanced motoring advice. Still, better to watch some contrived way to show that driving an expensive supercar is faster and better than [insert form of public transport here] than be bored senseless by a consumer advice review of the latest Ford Escort or whatever.

I'm calling it now: I fully expect the bullet train option to be scuppered by several scenes of James and Hammond not being able to speak Japanese at someone behind a ticket desk or finding the only station in Japan without bilingual signs.
