It was odd that they didn't put the Gallardo Balboni around the track, I'd have liked to see that.

And Jeremy, it's still NOT a car show, just light entertainment.

i thought that kit car Lancia was the coolest thing ever, this pisses me the hell off that the top gear production team messed him and the other 2 guys, gerry etc, of whom im not familiar with, around.

Sounds like the same stunt they pulled with the tesla, oh its out of juice hahahah electical cars are soooo crap guys! yaaa!
Oh wait no it didnt actually run out of power, we just pretended

Wools where did you grab that statement from? Wouldnt mind having the homepage link to the cars assembler etc, cheers

Here's the original post from the guy.

The Stratos Enthusiasts Club exists for all enthusiasts of the Lancia Stratos, in all of its forms.

I think for most of us it is just entertainment, but I think many people think everything Top Gear say and do is for real.

It is just a comedy show at the end of the day with a few cars thrown in. "The three stooges" get their little comedy routines writtien for them every week, and they get a load of monkeys to stand in the background to go along with the joke.

Personally I like the show as entertainment, and that is all I see it as. I feel sorry for the guy with his stratos if that is what did happen.

I thought it was a better episode this week (only watched it last night). Kit Stratos did look lovely if not too practical. Far from the essential viewing it was only what eighteen months ago sadly.

The James May balloon/caravan element was totally scripted, what a surprise, he genuinely looked worried when told about a aircraft approaching at three o'clock etc

I swear TV these days is purely in the editing, i rekon todays bbc editors could make michael palin look like an insensitive racist if they got their hands on his traveling shows.

              down with editors!

The hilarious thing about the airship setup was their complete disregard for geography. May took off from Cardington Hangers in Bedforshire and headed towards Dorset. He said he could make it, so would go to Kent instead (which almost in the opposite direction). He said he couldn't make that, so would go to Essex Instead, which is even further in the wrong direction.

Then he got into trouble at Norwich Airport which way North of any of the locations he'd been to or was going to.

A mate of a mate was asked to be an extra in this sketch, but it was cut. Originally May was supposed to land in a cricket field 'by accident'. The extras were hired as cricket players and told to look amazed when this airship landed in the middle of their game. What actually happened is that May lost control of the airship and it actually did crash (although not badly). Of course because this was unscripted, the whole scene was cut.

Which kind of sums up Top Gear at the moment. Big production values and comedy 'skits' in place of the genuine moments of greatness that the show used to have.

I'm under no pretense that Top Gear is a serious car show which is fine, there's plenty of other sources out there that are much better than Top Gear could ever be. However I don't painfully obvious and poor scripted events to be entertainment, it seemed likely when watching the Stratos kit car they were deliberately spinning it out and there wasn't anything entertaining about it. On the other hand it would have been great to see the Stratos kit car (which seemed to pack a decent amount of power) against a current Impreza/Evo on a dirt track, better yet add a Group B car to see how it's incredible power would compare to modern technology.

The section with the Evo against the army stood out last series as being particularly bad as it seemed like nothing more than an advert for the army. The scripting was all just horribly fake making none of it all enjoyable. Shortly after I was watching 'Top Trumps' where they choose a subject then each presenter chooses what they think is the best vehicle, this time it was one of the multi-purpose vehicles that had been in the Top Gear section. A very much Top Gear inspired approach was taken straight away with the vehicle being hammered round a rally style track complete with powersliding before switching to a four wheel drive mode and the hydraulic suspension lifted to let it go over incredibly rough terrain. The presenter then had a drive with the test driver laughing at him avoiding pitholes in the track, the vehicle was entirely road legal so he then took it through a local town had a stab at reverse parking it. It was a far more interesting way to show off some genuinely impressive machinery (which would usually be very dull) and seemed very much more the approach Top Gear should have (and previously probably would have) taken.

Yeah the caravan thing was a BIG WASTE OF TIME. Utter crap. Even the most idiotic of idiots would wonder why, if he accidentally landed in the airport, would they have a camera crew in the airport?!!!!

It's one thing doing a skit and another trying to pretend its all real.

I tell you what, this show gets more and more like the Gadget Show (not Fifth Gear!) week after week.

Anyway, apparently Guy Ritchie has trashed 4 cars while filming the SIARPC section for this weeks show.

What the f*** was that all about then? Was like watching Fear an Loathing rather than top gear. The twingo bit was bonkers, and not in a good way.

                                Guy Richie is weird.

I actually thought the Twingo bit was the best bit by far. Yeah, it was a silly script but it wasn't pretending to be anything else and there was some real reviewing in there. Like a car review with a sense of humour and ridiculous budget.
