you edit that out, and have only the Island ending, I think it would be satisfying for most everyone - Jack saves the day but dies, a few Losties escape, Hurley is left in charge. The trouble with sideways world is it feels like the wool has been pulled over our eyes for a whole season. They done a similar trick end of season 3 with the "We have to go back to the Island" cliffhanger, the difference being that was only one episode and the audience readily accepted that.
A "twist" is all well and good, but sideways didn't feel like a twist so much as being lied to.
I still liked many parts of it, but feel the big element could have been handled better.
I watched the last three episodes (or penultimate and the double - woteva) on Saturday and it was a real emotional journey. I'm glad I had a few friends to play Red Dead Redemption with afterwards to calm down!
Firstly, I need to say how much I've enjoyed the show and even dull episodes haven't tainted it, because you know how great it can be. Absolute classic and landmark television.
I was a little let-down when the show turned from scientific oddity (hatches, buttons, electromagnetic pulses, time travel, teleporting rabbits, looped warning messages etc etc) into a story about a
. There was a lot of ace suggestions like the island anchored the world's orbit and such. I was still resolved to see it to the finish though and glad I'm did.
purgatory (Wiki - "Purgatory is the condition or process of purification or temporary punishment in which the souls of those who die in a state of grace are made ready for Heaven.") plotline as this was dismissed by the writers very early on. Looking back on it, I actually think the purgatory storyline was a little superfluous. I mean, Jacob could have said something to Hurley like "It's OK, you'll see Jack again in a special place where you'll all meet up" instead of doing the double-bluff which they used with the first flash-forward.
It just seemed like an opportunity to show all the old characters again.
10. Season 5 - Jack finally fights Sawyer
9. Sayid shoots young Ben
8. Locke's murder
7. Sun sees the freighter explode with Jin on it
6. Ben moves the island

1. The first flash-forward.
I'm not going to number them, but some of my favourite moments were:
the pilot episode,
the survivors listening to the looped warning message that's been playing for years,
Discovering the hatch
The revelation that Desmond is in the hatch
Not pressing the button and the blue light map appearing on the door
Finding out that Ben really isn't Henry Gale
Hurley fixes the VW Camper Van
Hurley re-writes Empire Strikes Back
"Not Penny's Boat"
The polar bear
Finding out the tail-section survivors and one of them is an "other"
Ben's daughter is shot in front of him
"The Constant" episode
Which scenes stick the most in your mind when you think back about Lost?
^^ I could've used the Dallas ending from that link, but it was easier to pretend I watch Crossroads than Dallas, as I would've been nine when Dallas ended.
I think there is absolutely no need to show any of the Ben & Hurley Rule. Much better left to the viewers infinite imagination of just what a double act that would have been
I imagine it will be an expensive 12 minutes too, because I'm sure I've read somewhere that this bonus feature will be in the complete show boxset and not in the standalone Season 6 set.
I heard the opposite and it will be on both the complete Lost boxset and the normal season 6 set. Doesn't matter, anyway. The second it comes out on either it'll be up on YouTube.
